Just phoning around main stealers, for a quote for an "inspection 1" service. I won't name and shame them but they are in the northwest.

Stealer 1 - £692
Stealer 2 - £720
Stealer 3 - £785

When asked what was involved in that cost for an "inspection1 " - I was told, "oil, oil filter, fuel filter, pollen filter and a health check" !!!!!

They have to be *** kidding me!!!!

I am yet to consider servicing, but at time of purchasing, I asked for a service plan and was advised that Land Rover do for all parts of their range, except the ffrr !!!!!!! I suppose this could be considered discrimination

Well that's changed then. They certainly used to. I know because I used to have one!

I wonder; how much LR charge for the technicians to attend L405 specific training courses, how many days they lose their expensive technicians for, how expensive the model specific tools are and how many of the relatively few L405's that they sell ever need a scheduled service more than once a year?

I suspect that there aren't that many chargeable services to spread a lot of fixed costs between.

My most recent service, as described above, £478. Oil, oil filter, pollen filter, etc. They did advise on rear brakes which would have cost £600 fitted but I declined as there was still 5mm pad thickness. That's at least a year for me.

.... and the apprentices do the servicing at MD's. Full service 40 mins at 4 quid an hour 322 or 405. 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus

Had a similar discussion last time mine was in for service.......

Dealer: we checked your brakes and front pads are down to 5mm, would you like us to change them?
Me: when do the wear sensors detect an issue?
Dealer: when the pads are around 2mm
Me: then I will wait until the sensors do their job!

Mine told me my rear brakes "were down to the metal" after only 28,000 miles

I was horrified that I could let it get to that state; then I asked why the brake sensors hadn't picked it up? They then said that that won't happen until 2mm and they hadn't got that far yet!!

I had them put back and got the checked independently 1,000 miles later; there was >4mm of pad still remaining
