A BMW version of the BM54 so I can use the 3.5mm aux in socket BMW sell. In fact, the socket should be in at the local BMW stealers in the morning. 2006 Mercedes CLS

My underatanding is that there are two types of the BM54 which came about with a year change, 2005 I think?

They are both BMW versions but your one will be newer, I think yours will also support CD Text? Correct me if I'm wrong.

I think it also "enhances" the TMC options in the nav, have you noticed any changes or additional features? I presume you've done the MK4 upgrade?

Could you let me know the BMW part number on your unit so I can keep an eye out?

No idea about that mate, I haven't done the mk4 nav yet,

I read that the LR version of the BM54 doesn't have the software fto recognise the aux in socket so won't show up as Aux on the mode selection, (Radio>CD>Tape>Aux) Whereas the BMW version from 2003 onwards does.

It's mainly so I have a way of plugging in my generic mp3 player (Sorry Dan, Iphone Laughing ) as the current setup is crap.

I'll have a look at the part no. though. 2006 Mercedes CLS

ok so lets get this clear, you swapped your old bm54 for a later one, this gave you an aux in so you could use your iphone, as dan said, it should support cd text..i take it after the swap you had an extra loom that connected to the radio and then gave you a 3.5 jack plug. what other things did you notice. V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

Yeah, swapped the radio tuner for a BMW version of the BM54 2003>, ordered the BMW aux input cable from BMW that plugs into the radio tuner, this gives you a 4th option on the source selection, Radio>CDC>Tape>Aux, extended the cable to the centre console, bought one of these leads...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...K:MEWNX:IT

I've made it so the dock connector is poking out from the side of the gear lever trim, plugged the cable into a USB cigarette lighter adapter inside the cubby box, so when I plug my phone in, it now charges it and plays simultaneously and I get good sound quality, much better than an fm modulator, cost less than an Intravee setup and I still get to keep my CD changer.

Not sure about the CD text bit though, I would have thought that would be controlled by the CD changer not the radio module, I'll give it a whirl though.

Best bit is, after buying all the bits, I'm still £30 or £40 in profit! Laughing

I'll put some pics up of it later.

All thanks to Ajay for the heads up about it. Thumbs Up 2006 Mercedes CLS

The CD changer is already CD text compatible, it needs the later (like wot u have) BM54 to be able to display though.

This also means you could upgrade to the MP3 changer now too.

One of the bigger benefits though is the "Dynamic Routing" that the Nav will now do.

More info here:
http://forums.m3cutters.co.uk/archive/index.php?t-4831.html

Also here's some cut n paste stuff:

The BM54 is the hub of the cars audio system.

It is the Radio module, it also acts as the switching unit for the phone, nav, cd changer and AUX device.

It has 2 tuners (1 for radio and 1 for TMC), it decodes the TMC signal and interacts with the MK3/MK4 nav computers for TMC info and dynamic routing (if 2005->), it also allows the system to read the TMC messages and display them on screen.

Each tuner has its own antenna feed (although it only has 1 antenna lead), and some have the diversity antenna option.

It also interacts with the MK3/MK4 nav computers and TV module for the display part of the radio function (so you "see" the radio stations) and had RDS and TP

It has simple normal radio like functions for sound tone etc.

It has built in amps (35w per channel) so will work without an external amp.

Sounds good to me.

Where would one find an MP3 changer? Is it an aftermarket or BMW part? 2006 Mercedes CLS

From my dark and merky past when I had an X5 Embarassed ....a long long time ago......(2001-2004) I recall that towards the end of ownership the issue of CD Text was a hot topic on the forums, I think Dan is partly correct but I am sure you needed a newer CD changer too as this was another possible upgrade that I orginally planned for my FFRR. Can't really see the point though especially as my DVD changer plays DVD audio mp3's with menus Thumbs Up

Actually, thinking about it, I don't need an MP3 changer, I've got my iphone with about 2000 tracks on, that was the whole idea of the BM54 swap.

Damn you Dan, I bet you're purposely trying to get me to part with my cash! 2006 Mercedes CLS
