Hi everybody, need some advice
how much does it cost roughly for timing chain/guide/tensioners etc replacement as my baby has started to rattle at top/front of engine

if that is the issue its expensive i would rule out everything else first.

Your looking for everything needed replaced, around 3k as its around 18-25 hours labour depending who does it.

If you need vanos units replaced at same time or rebuild you can add that on top. the seals start to fail and can created noise and performance loss.

I paid £3000 at a specialist LR indie. That’s new chains guides etc. Front had to co me off but if they tell u the enginr has to come out tell them to get stuffed. It doesn’t (but takes more time and expense!)

just on a vanos point, I recently used Mr vanos to do a swap for a refurbed unit on my e36 M3. was £800 and that included him coming out to me and stripping the top end in my garage and putting a new "fixed" unit in.

Nice chap Steve, if a little busy and difficult to track down. There is nothing the chap doesn't know about BMW engines, more the performance ones I reckon but might be worth an ask.

I am going to attempt this myself as cannot afford garage prices have sourced parts recquired but which manual do I need to guide me thru ?
