Tailgate not latching

This just started where the tailgate-metal not glass half- doesn't latch all the time. Need to close it 3 or 4 times. Adjustment , cleaning or it the actuator on the way out? Thanks.

I'd start by cleaning and lubricating the lock mechanisms, then seeing whether the rods they locate on have become displaced, I think they are on a concentric pivot (if that is the right phrase) and if yes, repositioning so they match up with the locks. Only Range Rovers since 1988

I had this on mine, the plastic finger latches would stick and need manual release (ooooh errrr mrs).

Lots of WD40 etc and wiggling and they are now fine again. I think the they seized up with dirt. Tom

Thanks guy. I had given it a bit of WD40 but will be more liberal and check alignment.

It took several attempts with the WD40 for it to work. After a few weeks of manually wiggling the latches daily it is now back to normal. Tom

I had to take mine apart, clean and lubricate as the WD40 wasn't getting to the sticky part very well but worked great after.

I had similar happen to mine, so I did all of the lubrication I could - didn’t work. I then took the panel off to see if a wire was loose etc - my problem was one of the two check straps had started to really rust through and deteriorate and was lying out of line and only slightly stopping the boot from shutting.

Replacing the straps fixed it for me Thumbs Up ______________________________

Thanks all. A little more WD 40 and it seems back to normal. Probably just crap in the mechanism.
