I've got a problem of how to feed x2 HDMI sources from my living room to my bedroom.

The first is my CCTV system and the second is Virgin Media (and I'm a tight arse yorkshireman that isnt paying for multiroom).

If it was one source I'd buy the kit to do it over powerline or try a wireless kit.

My house has previously had Sky multiroom plumbed in and has twin coax going to both TV locations if this helps but I can't find a cheap way to convert HDMI to be able to utilise these.

My idea was to remove the existing sky cables, buy x2 30m HDMI cables with micro HDMI plugs, feed through existing holes and step the plugs back to normal size at either end once inside.

One other thing that I'm not sure on is splitting the original sources, I've seen ebay jobbies that literally split the feed, I live alone and neither TV will be on at the same time so I'm hoping these would be okay?


I've already wasted £25 buying another Tivo V6 box off ebay after reading that you could just wire it in and away you go, turns out virgin are ON IT and the box needs to be activated on the + side I've got a 2nd remote for the bedroom and a 1TB hardrive.

I did this in my old house - might still have some of the kit somewhere.....

I ran cat 5 network cable - which has push fit connections like a telephone socket - the boxes I had for either end also ran the IR remote the other way - so a receiver in the bedroom and a transmitter downstairs.

I'm confident enough, just not too familiar with this area of tech, rather seek advice than waste money.

I had looked at the CAT 5 cable but from what I've read on them I'd need to run 4 as the better quality TX/RX devices use twin lines.

The IR repeater isn't necessary as the new Tivo V6 remote will pair with one remote via bluetooth so I can use that in the bedroom and the other will still function with the IR in the living room.

I've got/had the Virgin media box rigged up in my room using the old SKY cables at the minute, I just have to unplug the box and take it with me into the living room

Search hdmi extender on amazon.

You can get a cheap kit which converts hdmi to send over cat5 with Ir control. Just swap the coax to cat5. Kits are so cheap you could get a couple. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Mine were a single cable - says CAT6 on them, but seemed to work fine over CAT5

They are sitting here in a box doing nothing, so PM me your address and I'll post then to you if you want to try them - I took them when I moved out, but have no foreseeable need for them,

You'd need Cat5 cable, a couple of double outlets and a tool

The cable has 8 wires - you peel back the outer then push fir the individual coloured cables into the back of the socket

You might even be able to run it over the mains using one of these though I haven't tried that.
