Is "air suspension inactive" an MOT failure?

Asked my Independant today, as I need an MOT in the next couple of weeks, and he was somewhat non committal. Basically he said sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. I thought MOT rules would be the same all over, but hey ho.

The car is in normal road height, but doesn't go up or down. I can clear the fault, but it just comes straight back again once I start driving. Obviously needs some further investigation, but in the meantime I need an MOT.

So will it cause me a problem? Has it caused you a problem? RR History

If it is running at normal height, airbage inflated, should expect it to be OK, deflated bags on the bump stops would be a different matter Regards

From the testing manual:

https://www.mot-testing.service.gov.uk/doc...000405.htm

I feel my MOT guy would want to see it working (e.g. no faults) a bit like failing if the EML is on, but you never know. Worth asking before you put it in! .

A local garage I went to for my mot called me half way through test and told me air suspension had gone inactive and they could not finish test as the car was dangerous.they had jacked up car at front with doors closed and then proceeded to mess around with her obviously not knowing what they were doing . They then put her out in the snow and called me to come and get it leaving me stranded .when I approached them for help I was told they were not interested in the car and abandoned me to fix it myself .Luckily another garage had a diagnostic and managed to reset suspension . I took her to another garage and she passed with only a couple of advisories . Horror story or what .

When mine did this is was one of the front height sensors - a plastic piece with a rose bearing on each end - one had snapped off ! Got one from Dan and 5 minutes to fit. No need to reset the fault as clears itself Smile

Did that aswell happened at same garage during mot hight sensors as you know are a bit delicate and a clumsy mechanic can break them mine accepted no responsibility saying it must have been broken when I came in a bit of a joke realy as the air suspension was fine when she went on pit .Another way it can happen is if she gets a bad jump start it spikes the e u and can put her into transport mode.no interior lights no central locking air suspension inactive until a reset .Mine in getting new fuel pump at the moment stranded in Morrison car park ..happy days

Right then, I'll have the answer in an hour or two. Just off for an MOT. I reset the fault, but it came straight back up again.

Fingers crossed Whistle RR History

Would you believe it. I reset the air suspension just before setting off for the MOT and for the first time ever it did not automatically go to fault status. Drove all the way there, had the mot, and drove all the way home and the fault didn't come up. Very Happy

Oh, and it passed Thumbs Up RR History
