Sat Nav Version & Update

I've been wanting to check the map version of my car since I collected it and possibly consider updating it to the latest 2017 version but unusually I have struggled to find the "how to" answer here for an L405. Confused

So a search further a field came up with the required info and for the benefit of others here's how you check: Pics are from my car though Smile

First off select Destination Entry from the Nav Menu and you should be at the following screen:

Press and hold your finger between the two letter 'T's' in the word "desTinaTion" (circled red above) for a few seconds and the screen will change to the diagnosis screen below:

Select the first option "Parts Information" and you will be presented with your map version info at the bottom of the next screen:

Year followed by month again circled in Red Thumbs Up

Up until last night mine used to be V30.14.02 but it now has the latest 2017 version (map date actually April'16) Rolling Eyes

The upgrade takes around 2 1/2 hours to complete and yes you do have to have the engine running Shocked I had hoped my Ctek in supply mode would do the trick but the ICE system still shuts down after a few minutes so "engine running" seems to be the only way.

I bought one USB stick with two activation codes as I wanted to carry out the upgrade to SWMBO's D4 as her map version was V30.13.02 Shocked

Both upgrades went without a hitch and having checked the new map data for a few new local roads I couldn't be happier Cool

One quick note though, it doesn't appear to be possible to get out of the diagnosis menu without switching the ignition off, locking the doors and waiting a few minutes for the system to reset.

I hope this helps,

Stan, I did read that thread and as far as I am aware, unlike an L322, there is no “map upgrade” menu on an L405 and this method is the only way to identify the map version Thumbs Up

From where would one buy the activation code please? And for how much? I'm only interested in legit but always thought that new maps would be very expensive.

As far as I am aware the dealers have to source the upgrade from the same place.

While it may be possible to locate the map data from other “sources” the software is protected by the need for a unique activation code generated from the full VIN number of the vehicle it’s being installed on. Without the activation code you cannot start the upgrade process.

I am mindful of the forum rules but “if” there were alternative sources for the activation codes would this not allow for a degree of competition? I’ve never been a fan of a pricing monopoly but if the upgrade was available at less than £100 rather than the £174.80 I am sure the uptake would be more than double Confused

I remember a decade ago a friend of mine installing Windows 7 on various pc’s with a block of genuine licences not purchased from MS Rolling Eyes

Would suggest you hold off buying a map update for a L405 - The 2018 maps are due out int he next 4-6 weeks! I am just waiting to upgrade myself!

probably won't make a difference waiting for 2018 update. After a few years they stop providing any new releases for older systems regardless what date they print on the front of the box. For example my old 2012 L322 had the "latest update" for that car but it never went past 2010 data.

For 405's with the older infotainment / nav system the latest update may be April 2016 as Andy has pointed out - even though they are selling it as the 2017 USB. Any 2018 release may be just for the later / newer systems.

don't take my word for it though, I would love to be proved wrong. Rolling Eyes

I hate to violently disagree with any comment in the forum, but I am afraid I must! Whilst I’m all I favour of a bit of profit and commerce.....

I’m of the view, that a minor bit of software updating should be FREE as part of any service for a luxury car brand- after all the main dealers take our pants down anyway, & a little “give me” wouldn’t cost so much.

JLR could cover the minor cost by not giving a car away to be smashed up for some new Hollywood movie

Perhaps we actually agree then.... Whistle Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

He who dies with the most toys wins...
