So last week I handed back my Audi S1 3 years lease was a lot of fun and a highly enjoyable experience.
I need a new vehicle one that fits the dog has some “character” not a lease it will be used roughly 8k miles a year not for the commute , holidays and continental trips.
Budget is up to 12k .I have been scouring autotrader.
What are the differences between 2006 v 2007 model obviously in the same spec ?
Personally I would prefer the 4.2 Petrol I am not expecting S1 performance but some poke would be nice. The mpg aside is there any issues plumbing for the petrol over the diesel.

If its speed your after a petrol would be your best bet. Off the top of my head a 4.2 sc would be atleast as quick an S1, unless your one was a special version. The diesel is a lovely car and would be ( was) my choice purely for costs and with a remap quite brisk. Years dont really matter depending on when they were registered but models vary in those years due to a facelift. 2015 4.4 AB

When I was looking for ours late last year it appeared most of the petrols were pre-facelift unless registered after mid 2007, whereas the the facelift came in on the diesels in mid~late 2006. I'm betting LR hadn't been selling many petrols in the UK and were selling from a stored stockpile until mid 2007. The diesels were popular, so there was no stockpile to sell off before bringing in the facelift.
I was initially going for the petrol, but because of the better trim / spec on the facelift & effortless performance went for the tdv8 diesel. Paul,

How can I tell with the diesel if it is post facelift? Were all the changes comestic?

I believe the obvious changes were cosmetic, but others related to seats, much higher output aircon, different satnav & stereo functionality, electric handbrake etc, I think they also changed suspension settings (including reduced suspension travel !)
I think all tdv8s were the Facelift spec, but others maybe able to confirm. Paul,

The easiest way to tell is the ignition key position
If in centre console earlier model
If in dash then it’s the facelift 4.4 AdBlu Tractor

Essentially just my wife wants to know if she is ok with the size.
Spec is ok but prize seems on the steep side.
Ideally I would prefer grey,blue or green prefer the black trim on the dash .
Like I said I think a drive in a petrol will be next .

Well that is encouraging. The dealer generally seems to deal with more exotic vehicles.
Looking at the 4.2s quite a few are specified with the two tone leather not to my taste .

Just as a warning, that was obviously optioned with light guards, someone has taken the back ones off. Make sure you like the front ones as the wing had to be drilled with a captive fixing to fit them. You can’t just take them off!! Unless you weld up the holes, filler and spray or swap the wings.... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Actually I am slightly worried about the perception driving such a vehicle gives.
I see an old Range Rover as a functional vehicle.
Has anyone ever received an adverse reaction?

What's your perception of people who drive range rovers ? Obviously a FFRR is something that people notice and you are coming from a compact that would be under the radar to most.

Over here FFRRs seem to be driven by everyone and anyone. I have never seen a ' type '. 2015 4.4 AB

Where I live people mostly have them because they are dog people 🙂. My criteria for the new vehicle was 4 wheel drive( for winter trips to in laws in Germany) enough space for the Dog and his stuff .
I know I could just for a 2 litre TDi A6 Avant I guess I wanted something a little different.
Believe it or not a Skoda Supurb had sprung to mind .
I have no preconceptions of FFRR drivers perhaps slightly mad in a good way lol.
My wife’s only comment was even if we could afford one(which we can’t) we could not own the new discovery and I quote”have you seen the number plate” she is a bit ocd lol
