Autowatch Ghost

Gents, I wonder if any of you can help me out?

I enquired today on when eventually my new car comes along (Was September but have been told now could possibly be later) how much a Autowatch Ghost system would cost to be fitted. The installer is a registered installer of this type of system and shocked me when he said they don’t fit this system to Range Rovers Rolling Eyes

They have had reports of people having trouble with the system where it’s locking up gearboxes and Land Rover having words about the people having this system fitted. Shame Land Rover don’t offer a better security system Banging Head

He said he was being completely honest and he would fit if I really want it but I must be aware of these
problems he mentioned. He also did mention that by the time I get my car the software bugs could be updated.

So if any of you have this fitted, how does it perform and have you had any problems.

Thanks in advance.

Have one fitted, it cost £350 all in. Just make sure that when they fit it it has a relay in the installation, that apparently stops any problems with the gearbox showing any faults.

Thanks for the replies......

buz does your installation have the relay that RRVSE mentioned?

I’m surprised the installation people I have spoken to have not mentioned this relay also.

Perhaps I should do a bit more research and find another installer as well.

I'm not ware that a relay has been fitted to mine.

The only issues I had initially is that when I forgot to disarm the system and the car shutdown when I tried to move out of Park. When I restarted the engine and then disarmed the system correctly I used to get some engine and gearbox management fault lights lit on the dashboard. These appeared to have no effect on the actual driving of the car and after a number of restarts the errors cleared.

However, i've discovered that if I do forget to disarm the system I now enter the code before I attempt to restart the car. following this process I've never had any error lights showing.

A word of warning. The system allows you to use a phone app that uses Bluetooth to disarm the system. This allow you to just get in the car and drive off if you have the phone with you and the app active without having to enter the disarm code. I tested this facility by leaving my phone in the house and trying to start the car, it started without any issue. Basically if you car is parked overnight at home and within Bluetooth range of your phone it's not protected, unless your switch off the app. It's remembering to disable this facility on a daily basis that's the issue for me so I never activate this function. This also makes me less liable to forget the disarm process. 2019 L405 SDV8 Autobiography

Buz,

This could be the problem he was referring to. It’s a still a bit down the road yet till I take delivery so I’ll get on the case and research some more.

Thank you very much for all the replies, really helpful Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Yup, that is what the relay should stop, the fault lights usually go after 5 or 6 starts and it does not affect the running at all.

We use the firm below, fitted to 5 company cars now as well as mine. Price now £399 and Ghost 2 fitted.

Spoke with the autowatch technician, who came to supervise a fit to a vehicle that had not been done before, and the Thatcham approval or something similar is in the offing.

As an alternative I’m having the Meta Track VTS/S5 fitted to mine. It’s CAT 5 plus Thatcham approved. It includes a key fob and app that prevents the RR from starting even if you have the key. This prevents the signal from the key in the house being used to open/start the RR (key cloning).

I’m using these guys who come highly recommended, have been very responsive and knowledgeable, and specialise in high value vehicles:

Thanks for the replies, I’ve spoken to the guys at Kent and going down the ghost option, the meta does look good but I’m so used to hearing stories of the tracker being found in a field and I used to own a metal recyclers yard where we took in a lot of vehicles as well as the main recycling, and often they got pulled apart for spares and you could pull the roof lining down, door rubber off, glove box out or the fuse area in the boot and can detect wires that are not factory in seconds despite how good the foam style type was it always was a little different to the one in the car and follow them to the tracker, albeit saying that mine came with a tracker installed by a previous owner in the dealer paperwork but tracker said they couldn’t find it and did I have the original private plate it was on from new or find the unit and tell them the serial number “bizarrely” and we could activate it.

Whilst I was fitting a dash cam I found a out of place wire drilled in for an earth so I’ll be tracing that without damaging stuff this weekend, I presume it will be the tracker and then I’ll pay the subscription since it’s fitted.

There’s better trackers that won’t get found, like the DanTracker you can hid it anywhere battery last for 10 years but the app is rubbish and so is customer support but you can attach it where no thief would look. I have them on my bikes and Jetski and I’d relay on one of them hidden rather than wires that can be traced and thrown in a field.

Just read that back, needs punctuation but she’s nagging

Fin, I don’t disagree about retro-fitted trackers. Mine has the OEM LR tracker and monitored security system (Remote Control App) already fitted. The main reason for the Meta is not the tracker function but the additional imobiliser that prevents theft via key cloning. Plus an additional level of security that the thief might not expect makes it a bit less nickable. MY23 D350 HSE

Yeah I’ve got an ghost 1 that was previously fitted to a 2014 BMW so I spoke to the guys discussed above and they can fit it for me, but it’s 4 wires so if anyone has the instructions to change the setup from BMW to RR and knows if you need a relay or not give me a shout and I might tinker with it, I obviously know the codes previously used for it and the have the override key where you scratch the panel off for changing it if you forgot it but just not sure on how to change basic setup from BMW to RR I’m aware of the guys at the mustang forum have some details on wiring, basically live, neutral, and can bus high/low connections however not sure if you need to use the relay and do they put it on the fuel pump or something else?

Reason for reviving this thread is I thought mine was safe as the car is parked pretty far away from the house and the keys suitably bagged and hidden, I didn’t realise they could take them without using the key is via an extender(holding the thing near your door and the repeater around your car) However a friends 59 disco was stolen a few night ago via smashing the window setting the alarm off and going nowhere near his house or keys that were covered by cameras and the car parked 100m away, I have a Thinkware in park mode so I know they went and looked at mine but his was in a tucked away place behind a church. They did all this in a stollen RR sport 66 plate, I put a post on here about it but I think mods pulled it because of the reg’s maybe??!?

My current immobiliser is as below and the boot put into valet mode
