L322 suspension faults

Hi guys, hello to you all, i'm now a owner of a L322 since 10/2010. Great vehicle, but I have got a problem with the suspension. Faults as follows HDC inactive, suspension inactive and abs fault. Had it diagnosed as YAW unit ( stability sensor LR terminology). Replaced the YAW, fault gone. Fault returned. But it keeps clearing its self and keeps returning when ever it feels like it!!!! The air susp sits level at normal road height when at rest and with the fault on. I can lift and drop the susp as normal when fault off, but one strange thing is that with the fault on, turn engine off after about 3-5 secs the front susp goes up to off road level and will stay there till I start it again then it returns to normal road level (with faults on or off). For those who dont know where the YAW unit is, its under the center consul rear .Has any body got any ideas to whats going on, I think its gremlins in the wiring, but diagnostics not showing anything else but the YAW unit!!!

If you surf over to our sister forum for Range Rover Sports www.RRsport.co.uk I know the same fault has been dealt with several times over there in the last 18 months - if you use the forum search function here and over there and on Disoc3.co.uk you will find loads of posts about similar problems.

How old is your battery as often these "faults" can be flagged up as a result of a dying battery, although your car is raising up which isn't usually a battery related fault.
If your FFRR has the offroad nav screen on the satnav then switch over to the offroad mode display that shows the settings and have a look to see if one of the ride height sensors is showing a fault. 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

My guess is ita only really likely to effect the dynamic stability control. I.e. the car will be less stable in an "exciting event".

I note your car is a 2003 - I have seen this on another FFRR - nose up in the air when parked but never found out why. Was a Neighbour who has since moved. 2010 Disco XS TDV6, 2009 Freelander 2 GS

Out of interest, did you replace the Yaw unit yourself or get a LR garage to do it? Reason I ask is because LR dealers have been known to charge for replacing parts they haven't...

I would take a close look at all the height sensors and their wiring. It could also be the EAS, DSC/ABS ECU as these will decide whether to declare a component as faulty, but are not so good at deciding whether they are faulty themselves.

Do you leave the A/C on all the time to dry the cabin air out? Furring multi-plug connections can cause big problems for the various electrical systems caused by moist air.

L322 suspension faults (YAW)

Thanks for your input Elpeede, Tim and Dan. Bought own YAW unit and had mate who is BMW specialist to fit in his garage. I told him about these forums, but he said to steer clear cos they can lead you away from the prob, but he is starting to come round and listen to what you guys are saying about the all the history you have between you all. Battery is new when I bought the car but I will make sure its the correct one for the job next time im in the garage.Tim I went into the offroad sat nav couldnt find the settings you where steering towards! Elpeede do you you know your ex neighbours phone No.!! Thumbs Up

I had the same errors, and it was traced to a speed sensor on one of the front wheels ...£17 later and its gone

get someone to put it on the real diagnostics kit and read the error code

reset and clear them all

wait for them to come back and get it read again

then you will be sure of the error as reported by the ECU

next time, as for the printout so you can do a quick google and see for yourself what the errors mean, otherwise you can be back repeatedly changing parts for months cheers

YAW (should be YAWN) fault

Thumbs Up Cheers bogie, My mates got the bosch testing lap topy thing, is there a better one to test the vehicle with!!. He said if it were a switch, sensor etc it would tell him which one.All faults were cleared and it keeps coming up YAW (LR language Stability sensor). Its a horrible wet rainy ,drizzly night here in durham, tossed the coin up to see if pub or tescos, staying in, trip to tescos. On my way to tescos, sat in the RR turned the key to pos 1 waited till all the clicky noises went, turn to pos 2 waited till all the clicky noises went turned ignition on, started engine and hey tesco (presto) no faults, HDC hung on in there for a few secs then went off. Did exactly the same when i fueled up with boys fuel at tescos and hey, no faults, cant wait till morning to see if it does it again (just like christmas so excited) Just thought (clicky things) is there any relays that energise when the door opens or when unlock and when turning the ignition through its possitions that would be connected to these sort of probs. Idea Question Exclamation Bow down

a generic reader for a Bosch ECU will only give generic manufacturer codes as per whatever BMW use...the LR full diagnostics gives a lot more detail and specifics usually

I too have my own generic reader, but its just that, and for troubleshooting these kind of issues, it really is worth paying £40 (whatever) to get it read properly somewhere that has the proper Land Rover kit...like a proper Landy independant (where I go is in Lincs) ...dealer of course, but they will charge £100-150 usually just to plug in and give you a diagnosis

the messages you are getting though, could be many root causes that trigger them , the remedy in my case was simple, like others have said, it can be anything from a flat battery, alternator, dodgy earth, bad sensor, etc etc cheers

YAW or maybe not to YAW maybe the question, but not the answ

Thumbs Up Cheers bogie, you are now saying the same questions I was asking, all along I am thinking/asking this is a silly switch, sensor or bad connection (worn cable) combination, I have nearly got my mate on my side and to stop listening to his lap top. I'm going to have him lead me to the correct person to have this sorted. He has connections in LR and £300 i have just spent!! And all this started with the bad weather, like most of the forum reports on other sites, with similar faults. When I was working, the factory was run through computer systems and when there were faults we had electrical bias techs who were trained to read the faults (break downs etc) on ladder diagrams, on the computer screens, once you knew what you were looking at it was quite simple to see what was faulting, thats what i have been asking for and need. These are our motors not LRs so why is it top secret that they have the diagnostics, there I have snapped, b----cks Big Cry

HDC fault YAW

Cheers Richcl, cheers for that, Ive been through the forums and found your faults and it was one of the first things i looked at. But im going with Bogie on this one, going round to the garage today to give my friend a little push to have this sorted. On the bright side of things it certainly stops you getting board, wish I could get my hands on a ladder wiring diagram.

yaw (stability sensor)calibrate

Thumbs Up Cheers Irdaft. Getting back to my trip to tesco the other night, I now enter the RR insert key into the ignition turn to poss 1 and wait a few secs turn to poss 2 wait a few secs. ignition on and wait till inspection complete, ABS light goes out etc and hey tesco NO FAULTS, been like that from friday night Idea now me thinks that when I wasnt doing that and jumping in turning the key starting the engine, turning the lights on and so on, do any of you think that there was a drain on battery (recently new battery)and not enough power for the electronics to do their check/cross checking and go into fault!!! Its so nice to get in and drive without the dash flashing at you.

i've been getting the fault message air suspension inactive, but it coincides with the car not starting due to a flat battery. new battery ordered so i'll keep on eye on things and update the post if i ca remember to do so. Cool
