L405 V6 S/C

Hi All,

I was wondering whether anybody actually owns a L405 V6 Petrol and if they do, how do they find it with real world mpg and to live with in general.

I've seen a few threads from people that have test driven one and say that the gearbox seems to work hard changing up/down a lot to keep momentum but can't find anything from anyone that has bought one.

I'm looking at getting rid of my D4 16MY Landmark and wanted to move up to a MY18 L405 and given the current ??? over what's going to happen to Diesel cars in the long term thought about getting a petrol but don't think I could be trusted with the 5.0 or my budget could stretch to it either.

I have a SMART car to balance the mileage out between the 2 cars.

Thanks

Lots of woe with jaguar Landrover 2.0 and 3.0 Diesel engines at the moment due to software changes last year to meet emission laws which is doubling Adblu consumption and bringing about early oil changes (5000 miles@). Inside story is that further woe for LR Diesel engines come Sept this year with last round of Phil Hammond emissions announcements. Porsche has switched to only selling petrol vehicles. The Hybrids will be next requiring a minimum of 100 mile range to comply as a true hybrid. Land Rover Range Rover possibly makes 25 to 30 miles on a charge similar figure to the Cayenne.

Good luck and needs lots of road testing and questions to dealership to get the decision right on engine choice. Also read the small print in the brochures and on line referring to oil and service intervals 12 months and 16,000 is an objective that may not be achieved if you choose to actually use your RR for what it is designed for ie driving

a now very annoyed 3.0 TDV6 RR owner. Journey started in a LR2B at 16 and has incl. just about every Land Rover, Disco, RRS and Range Rover Vehicle owned or driven, I even worked for the company when it was owned by BAe - It must be a madness!!! because to add to my 4.4 TDV8 Westminister In Baltic Blue I bought a second L322 as a commuter bus, TD6 2004 Vogue in Oslo Blue with cream leather now both gone replaced with what could turn out to be my biggest mistake. I felt sorry for a guy in Clackett Lane Services in a Diesel 65 plate DS yesterday afternoon, limped into the services, lots of clattering and clouds of smoke, hopefully, it's still under warranty.

Wasn't aware of issues with early oil changes or excessive Adblue consumption, the big driver for me is the crank snapping on the V6 Diesel across all models and the inconsistent response from LR on how much they contribute or don't, and as you mention, the current governments looming punitive measures on all Diesels.

Other marques aren't free from issues with their diesels either and will be clobbered collectively in September, some horror stories on the RRSport forum from former Audi drivers.

Obviously petrol engines aren't fitted with a DPF/Adblue emissions control so isn't affected. From looking on the LR used website, I can only find 3 L405 V6 S/C currently and I've been told that I can only order a V8 S/C as the 3.0 V6 S/C has been discontinued, surprising, given that on paper the V6 S/C didn't seem a bad compromise.

Sadly, most of the big chain dealers will tell you anything to get you to part with your money.

So I may for the first time in 20 years of LR ownership, be looking at another brand.

I lose track; please remind me, what’s happening in September?

Maybe Monty can add more to this, I've been told that manufacturers have to release real world emission data, its a phased change that started in 2017.

and then rumours of an increase in VED off the back of it, most of it is media driven but its having a tangible effect on Diesel sales for LR and everyone else.

Not all petrols - emissions requirements are still Euro 6.
