Aircon compressor

Has anyone changed the aircon compressor on their TD6 and if so, did you remove the viscous fan unit as part of the process? The workshop manual says so, but not sure I've got the tools to do it - otherwise the compressor change looks pretty straightforward - I hope!
Thanks in advance. L322 TDV8 4.4 - current

Changing it is easier from underneath and I don't think the viscous fan needs to come off, though it might be a good deal easier to access the pipes etc. The tools for removing the fan are quite cheap - you'll need a 32mm spanner and a tool to hold the fan itself (I think this fits yours: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Water-Pump-...wRJxZgkgN)

If you need a compressor, let me know as I've got one around. Current:

Just remove the viscous fan and shroud and be done with it (i.e. don't bother to refit), access to everything much easier and no fiddling about with undoing nuts the wrong way again Thumbs Up .
