Facebook scammers

Hi. I just wondered if any of you folks had came up against fake buyers trying to get you click on links for vehicle checks? My white vogue is for sale in a few places including here. Twice in the last 2 days ive had odd buyers try to tell me i must provide their requested vehicle checks. Blocked both amd reported to facebook but ive never come upon this before.

Looking at the wording, “liens” would concern me, as we don’t use that term in the UK Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

I thought we did - one of those arcaic words used by lawyers. Equitable Liens are a thing

Maybe so but I doubt your average Joe would use that term.

And also the bone idle sellers who post an ad because it's easy and free then when a buyer gets in touch they realise that they'll have to get out of their chair, find a box, wrap the item, label the box & go to the Post Office so they do nothing - just leave the potential buyer waiting

Sadly FB Market Place is like the wild west! Scammers everywhere and when you report them to FB no action is taken against them. This goes for buyers and sellers....

Worst thing I find about Facebook MP over here is you send someone a message, sometimes that may not work but if it does you get no reply. then you realise they did reply but messenger hides it! What a stupid system. Why cant they keep marketplace messages on that app and not involve a second app to communicate Current yokes

TBH the scam sellers don't bother me - it's so obvious and if anyone is dim/greedy enough to believe that they are going to get a car/bike/watch etc for half it's true value then they're going to give their money to a bookie/on-line casino/African Prince at some point anyway so no real harm done.
It's just the time wasters that bug me, anything that is "free" will be abused. If there was a charge to advertise then half the problems would vanish.

I believe the main purpose of this particular scam is not to get a vehicle report at all it is in fact intended to send you to a scam site masked as a vehicle checker but they just want you to enter your bank details when paying for a "report" and will then rob you blind once they have the details.

In my opinion any sensible legitimate buyer would get such a report on any vehicle they intend to buy themselves.

Sad to say, it's the cynic in me by I've come to assume I'm being scammed unless it's someone I know or has a good reputation.

Never use Facebook for that very reason it's simply too anonymous and zero protection if it all goes wrong, if I'm selling locally them Gumtree, but otherwise EBAY and always looking at history and > 50 transactions.

Even so, have had loads of people, so called cash on collection, never turn up so I don't deal in cash anymore.

As for reports, let them go to the trouble of running it via HPI or some other reputable firm. Fuji White 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westmiinster

FB Marketplace has deteriorated substanstially over the last year or so.

I put my Puma Defender on FB Marketplace (as looking to move to a FFRR) and been inundated with messages with links asking for trade with cash my way - just a ploy to click on their link.

Also the amount of cheap cars is unbelievable, click on the profile and find they have 20 cars at the same cheap price.

Working in IT, it really frustrates that Meta cannot combat this blatant scam via an intelligent algorithm.

I collect model railway (I know, sad) stuff & the only times I have had issues with items is from those who meet the above criteria.
On more that a few occasions I have had some absolute bargains from sellers that look a little "dodgy". Having said that I tend to use the Credit Card > PayPal > eBay route for payments just in case.
