My neighbor woke me to tell me what just happened and she called the police who were out pretty dam quickly searching the area but not heard anything since.

I’m now trying to find out my best course of action, is this something that an be replaced by the likes of Auto glass for example? Or could I buy another tailgate and swap it over, it’s bonded I’m guessing so might be hassle. Some insurance policies have glass cover which won't affect your premium.
So get your policy documents out have a read and go from there.

When I had the side glass on another car smashed, it 0nly cost me the same as a windscreen excess - something like £70 and didn’t count as a claim

I was still finding bits of glass in the car for months later though.

When mine got broken into last year they smashed the tailgate window and the passenger window. My insurance company just treated it as a windscreen/glass claim and I paid the £75 excess which covered both windows and didn't count as a claim. Autoglass did it in about 40 minutes - most of that time was spent by them hoovering up the glass. But as Alistair says, I'm still finding glass 18 months later. Current Fleet:-

Read your docs before you call the insurance. However many insurers just have a "press 3 for windscreen and glass" option which puts you straight through to Autoglass and the like. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Yes pretty much just went through autoglass instead of repairing myself. They came out and hoovered up and put some type of clear stuff over to weather proof it which I thought was good service. They will come back out Monday to fit it. £100 excess through insurance.
