Air Conditioning No Power to Compressor

Aircon wasn't really very cold so took it for a regas. Gas volume down a little but topped up. Aircon guys said that there was no power at the compressor (clutch?) Been checking for fuses associated with aircon but owners handbook doesn't list any.

Anybody point me in the right direction?

On '02 and '09 it is fuse 12 - 10amp (most likely) then fuse 34 - 7.5amp, so probably the same on yours.... Question .

Thanks all for your guidance. I finally found the fuse int eh passenger compartment F62 10 amp on the 2011 TDV8. It was labelled climate control ECU and I was looking for AC. Anyway checked it and it's fine so not the problem.

Had along drive yesterday and whilst the AC seems to function fine it just doesn't get very cool. A couple of times on the run it actually warmed up a noticeable amount. Anyone experience this before?

With the air con switched on, and engine running, get a view of the compressor. Is the end of the compressor going round, or just the grooved ring on the belt? If it is, then clutch should be engaged ( Thumbs Up ), and may be worth going back for a regas/pressure check. If it is not going round, could be not enough gas / pressure again in order to get the clutch to engage. .

Thanks for the guidance. I assume that the compressor is on the bottom right of the engine block as I stand in front of the car? (pic enclosed) The end of the compressor does indeed turn but irrespective of whether or not the AC button is on or off! Is that correct?

I'm familiar with the AC clutch on my P38 and that clearly does click in and out when AC is requested and it doesn't seem to do that.

I had no leaks found when tested and the gas was just topped up a little to fill it up.

Any further thoughts?

Thanks again.

Stanley, I have experienced exactly the same this last week.

It blows cool, just not ice cold.
I know (or at least think) it works as the low pressure side pipework gets noticeably chilled when it is switched on, and this is after the pipework was almost too hot to touch after a drive with it switched off.

Just back from having the aircon re-gassed.
The guy drained the gas (only had 740mg), did a 30 minute vacuum check, dye added, re-oiled and re-gassed (880mg).
After all this the pipe still gets chilled but its not much difference cold air wise in the car.
He didnt charge me for doing it as its not made any/much difference, which is nice but doesnt make me any cooler Confused

My compressor is definitely going around, and as I say the low pressure (thick) pipe gets cool.

It does seem to me that the ecu is doing something weird, as sometimes it works a treat, and then others it is just slightly chilled, not fecking cold like I would expect it to be. Selecting Max Aircon just seems to make the fans run flat out and use recirculation, not get any colder.
I'm going to take the filter out to see if that makes any difference to it.

What do the 2 leds mean on the recirc button ?
Is one front and one rear ? (my car has front and rear aircon)

Hmm, that raises a question - I wonder what the temp is like in the back, must try that...

Anyway, if you find the solution to this please let me know before I melt Embarassed Wink Too many toys, not enough time

I've just read the other aircon thread.
Funnily enough I first went to h@lfords for a top up, and the guy told me the low pressure side was over pressure, which is why I wentto have it properly recharged.
So it sounds like I have the sticky valve problem.
Maybe yours is the same stanley, get the low pressure side checked and see what it says. Too many toys, not enough time

Sounds as though we have a very similar problem! Just checked mine and same as you, the thick pipe is going nice and cold. Air did seem cooler in the cabin but still not cold.

Got it booked into my local AC shop but they can't look at it until Friday week! Still we need some rain for the garden!!

I'll report back on what they find.

If you have a halford nearby ask about their 40 quid recharge. The first thing they should do is check the low pressure side pressure, as that is the side they inject the additional gas.

If it is over pressure they should not do it.
If they do add gas and it makes no difference, they should not charge you (its in their terms).

Has to be worth a shot, you dont even need to book as long as its not a peak time Wink Too many toys, not enough time

So got it to the electrical/air conditioning specialist and the assessment is the the AC compressor is toast. Checked the gas level-ok. Did a climate control read -no faults logged. Carried out further tests and conclude that the drive plate is faulty. The clutch on teh front of the compressor is always engaged even when the AC switch in the cabin is not activated.

Anyone seen this before? Have requested estimate for replacement. Sounds as though compressor is about 400 pounds. Anybody have any idea about the amount of labour needed?

Thanks in advance.
