England 2007 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Santorini Black

Good quality fully synthetic oil and filter change every 6 months regardless of mileage, circa £70 a time if you diy,
against £2-3000 to replace turbos and periodic egr additives seems a no brainier!
Can’t fathom why anyone would leave oil changes to yearly or longer with equally high mileage’s....Russian roulette! Shocked 2008 L322 Vogue 3.6 TDV8 in Java Black with parchment and Navy interior. 125000mls.

I used to be indecisive and have a split personality... but we are ok now...I think?

What is the best oil ?

Not meaning to start an oil war ( i come from E39 M5 forums and Oil is one hell of a contentious issue)

Yep agreed and quality oil looks like 55 quid for a change - so that’s a bargain !

Has anyone used Forte turbo cleaner?

Personally I think all these intake/egr/valve/combustion cleaners are snake oil. Anyone that has taken a diesel apart and cleaned it will know how stubborn the carbon/soot deposits are, it can literally take a blow torch and wire brushes to remove.

My advice is to blank/disable the EGRs to stop this soot from getting in there in the first place. What is there already will remain until you strip the engine and mechanically clean.

As for the turbos maintenance:

Clean fresh and suitable grade, spec synthetic oil changed very regularly (max 6k miles)

Intercooler/intake hoses and manifolds need to be leak free, any boost leaks will over speed your turbos.
Gental driving until the oil is warm and a period of slow/steady driving and idling before switching off to remove the built up heat in the turbos that bakes the oil and blocks the oil ways and bearings.

Don’t drop dirt, rocks or bolts and screws, plastic etc in the intake system.

Don’t chip/tune your diesel, it will over speed your turbos,

Other than that they are maintenance free.

EGR blanking and mapping anyone know anywhere in north wales for this ?

Any downsides?

Yes i have a 2009 3.6 - have looked and can’t see a DPF…

I have read in a few places that the EGRs need coding out after blanking off.

Saw some poor guy who’s turbos imploded after he blanked his off without a remap

Confused…

Thanks, i took the car to a specialist today who echoed a lot of what has been said on here, i.e. it’s usually actuators, he said he hasn’t seen much trouble with EGRs .

He was more concerned about the gearbox being serviced.
