Hi, I purchased my 2010 4.4 tdv8 in April , and drove it to Bulgaria and back ,so a total of about 5000 miles since I got the car.
Today while I was waiting in a car park for a mate I checked the oil level on the dashboard and it says my car is overfilled.
Can anyone give me an idea of any problems I can expect from this happening...I havent added any oil since I purchased it.

And to add to my paranoia ,when I pulled out of the car park my tyre pressure warning came on ...so it was a slow drive home.I inspected the tyre and a nail has gone in ...easy fix, its the engine oil level thats concerning me.

Take another reading tomorrow aggraa. Try a cold reading too. The bonnet needs to be open, there is a sequence of keys you press to get a reading when the engine's cold. Also be patient when reading. Mine comes up a notch or two from the initial reading after a minute or two.

I read one case of a faulty sender a while back.

My experience was that the gauge was very sensitive to the car being on perfectly level ground, and as it reads in whole units rather than being infinitely variable, as a dipstick would be, the effect can be exaggerated. The handbook talks about testing while warm, but my dealer recommended testing cold and in the same place every time, and when I did that the apparent overfill turned out to be an illusion.

But keep monitoring the level as a rising oil level when you have not added any oil can indicate other problems. Only Range Rovers since 1988

Hi thanks for the replies. I havent been to my car today as i have been on the phone all day so far, thought i would check this thread on my coffee break.
In the morning I have a 80 mile round trip, so I will check the oil level before I leave and when I arrive 30 miles and an hour later when everything is hot.

The correct procedure is to check when warm, do you trip, then turn off car and let oil settle for 15 mins then check. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I got my tyre fixed £15 , I recommend KMC tyres in Norwich, I have used them for years, puncture repair, fitting new tyres supplied by me and buying tyres from them . Usually there is a bit of a wait 30mins or so but its worth it, Wheels removed with a breaker bar , care taken to jack in the correct place, replaced with a torque wrench and all tyre pressures checked even if only one tyre has been worked on.
It was a nice drive home tonight with no warning lights on the dash and not worrying about the oil, I must remember to put my headlights back to UK driving tomorrow
