who's Mark Laughing

inspired by the 'K-Tel Miko-Bracket' i've come up with this,

as for the FF screen , i cant see any reason to have it one when in euro land...no english radio stations, dont want to see the 4x4 screen...BT phone can be done by voice control as can the USB music...
oh, and the sat nav, well thats out of date by four years... ... - .- -.

You are Lucky Stan, my maps are 2010, eight years out of date.

Enjoy Italy, hope you have a good trip, just don’t go over any bridges.
Cheers

connect the nav to laptop/pc and open up EU+AU,

open the UI_IGO9 folder and go to the 800_480 folder and you'll see the LOADING.BMP picture,

replace that with whatever you want..

i can send you mine if you want.. ... - .- -.

so after trying the nav in the above and in front of the screen positions , i have finally adhered to to the centre vents....

having it here keeps it kinda out of sight if i had put it on top of the screen and this way i can still see the FF's screen... ... - .- -.

Does it get a good gps signal there?

When I had mine in front of the screen like your first picture I didn’t get a signal, hence I moved it up.
Maybe I was not using it correctly because it was my first trip.
I inputted my destination OK but it just said searching for GPS.
It seems to work fine in the higher position so maybe I will try lowering it a bit.

works fine where i have it now Mike..

when you first switch on the nav it has to calculate where in the world you are and that sometimes takes a while..subsequent switch on's should locate the sats quicker.. ... - .- -.

Looks better in the lower location IMHO looked a bit awkward in front of the main screen

Such a shame you cant just plumb into the built in screen.

Car electronics will be an interesting space - they just cant keep up with phones and they need to figure that out - I sat for an hour last night when they closed the motorway because of an accident - the RR nav was still showing the traffic as green - but Waze knew what was going on. Unfortunately I didn't consult Waze until I was already at a standstill Big Cry

When you consider that Waze is free and more up to date than even the latest RR maps, they should really give up trying.....

There is a possible solution to plumb into main screen.
Nobody's done it yet as far as we know:

Hello fun and groovy people.

Having taken some inspiration from Stan and Mike I decided that not only SatNav would be good but also the ability to see my IID tool -- so off I go in search of an android tablet, with GPS, running Bluetooth 4.0, and at least android 4.4.

I managed to find a nice Acer second hand for £40 -- the 'stand' was £10.66 delivered next day, took three days to arrive I won't be recommending the seller to anyone -- but you'll get the gist from the pics -- finally I haven't run power properly yet just whilst I'm testing, but very happy with the results so far -- especially as I have Google maps and Waze at my disposal.

Oh and if you're wondering how this thing connects to the internet -- I'm making my mobile phone into a hotspot automatically when the phone connects to the car's Bluetooth, this is done using MacroDroid, as soon as it disconnects from the car the hotspot is turned off.

So here's how it looks: -
