aux input - via CD changer or some other way?

Hi all,

Up until now I'd managed with a tape adaptor to play my mp3 tunes in various cars, obviously that isn't an option in the RR.
I know this question has probably been done to death, but is there an easy way to run a line-in instead? I dont and probably never will use the CD multichanger, can it be taken out and the multiplug repurposed with an adaptor? I know there used to be similar kits about for the Discovery 2. I'm not particularly keen on just using an fm transmitter adaptor with my phone as I like the ability to cycle through tracks without having to touch the phone.
The entertainment system in my car at the minute is the first of the jaguar/ford systems for the 2005 MY.

Thanks in advance,
Matt NW060

I bought the genuine LR iPod kit. Tbh in terms of convenience it's superb and there is never a problem with connection etc but it uses playlists and mimicks the CD changer, which for a 2007 car I thought was a bit old school. Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

I've also got the official kit, but TBH, it's very expensive for what it does.

Try the search function - there are a few threads on alternatives Thumbs Up

Oh god, the more of these threads I read, the more confused I get! Shocked

SO many different options, but they all seem to involve doing scarily involved things with various bits of the loom.....

I did notice however that I can pair my phone via bluetooth to the vehicle for calls etc... would I be able to stream music from that or does the system not support such a function?

Thanks,
Matt NW060

I just noticed you have a 2005. Is this pre facelift ? If yes the options are really much much better. With the '06 onwards it's either Alpine or LR with a couple of options. The pre facelift stuff has a host of options from a simple connection to a full headunit swap out, I think this opens up the Digital TV and you can get an android headunit.

Too much choice.... Rolling with laughter Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

No bluetooth streaming

Do you have an aux in socket on the back of the arm rest console ?

OK this is a bit specific but I use a Griffin Blue Trip to stream the music to my car via Bluetooth and use my watch ( Garmin Fenix 3) to control my iPhone which says in my pocket . Neat and simple but requires a smart watch .

^ still needs an Aux in connection - that removes the need for a physical connection between the phone & car

It's not clear yet whether Matt has a connection or not......

Thanks guys,

Sadly I don't have an aux connection:

I do however have this connection in the top of the centre cubby:

This is the setup in my infotainment compartment. The strange black rounded thing on top of the dvd unit is marked Nokia, presumably to do with the Bluetooth phone function? I also presume the dvd unit is for a nav disc only as I don't have headrest screens?
I've also seen mention of MOST vs non MOST systems, again I don't quite know what that means.

Thanks,

Matt

As you suspected, the DVD unit is for the Nav. This link will describe MOST http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOST_Bus

With a MY 2005 you have the optical (MOST) system between the various components.

The connection in the cubby box is for a Nokia telephone. John

No good option Crying or Very sad

FM transmitter is the cheap way to go
Middle ground taken by someone was a Parrot hands free kit linked to the amp that supported bluetooth streaming
'Best" is the official LR iPod kit is something like £500 - and takes an hour or two to fit

That said, the official kit is a bit pants - it only supports the first 5 playlists & just treats them like CD's - you do get steering wheel controls & song/artist display, but it still feels like half a solution.

^best solution I have found, gets you about 30 albums on the CDs and are about as easy to navigate as the playlists would be on the iPod link.

Takes a bit of faffing around though if all of your music is on iTunes in AAC. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Hi Mat777, got to ask, as your set up looks like mine, is it a non touch screen nav unit? Cos if it is then I will have good news for you! Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Mat777 needs to upgrade to an earlier car to get the non touchscreen bmw system to open up the options a bit Whistle

Or a later car....

Is the MOST system used in any other car than the rr ? Is there another band of car addicts that may have done upgrades ? Like the bmw owners have done....do any Ford cars have it ?

System seems a bit restrictive to me.

MP3 cd could be the easiest option without spending lots of money. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8
