IMO, if you blank off the egr's then have them mapped out. That way the correct flow data is received by the ecu.
But if you are gonna map them out it makes sense to go for a better fuel map too. The 3.6 TDV8 is in a low state of tune as standard and responds well to a remap. Nowhere near it's design limits as suggested . The gearbox however is near to it's stated torque limit.
That said, it can handle a remap well enough as its driven through a torque convertor and not directly.
I've had no problems at all only the benefit of cleaner oil, a smoother engine that pulls like a train and is oh so quiet. Mpg is up by around 2-3.
As for the MOT, yes, it's a fail. However with engine cover on it can't be seen.
You don't actually need to blank the egr's off. Just map them out, but they can still break up and lunch the turbo's .
So the choice is yours. I don't regret doing it and it's been the first thing I do on any diesel engine I've owned.
Your engine will thank you 2007 Vogue TDV8 in Zermatt Silver with Charcoal

If people are worried about blanking EGR and an MOT tester seeing it could you not just "sandwich" the blanking plate at the one end of the pipe eith the pipe still in position so it appears normal. I have done this in the past on non LR vehicles. This way even if an MOT tester was trying to have a sneaky look under the engine cover it would be almost impossible to spot 2010 3.6TDV8 Stornoway Grey/ Black interior - gone

EGR Delete longevity

Having read this thread and any and all others that I could find on the subject of EGR blanking on the 3.6 TDV8 I've gone ahead and ordered the EGR Delete kit as per others.

2 points; some of you have done this modification and run for 12 months or so. Question without a remap/delete is everything still OK or is a remap really required?

Second point, does anyone know of where I can get a remap from anywhere near me in Brittany, or is there a hidden Quantum or other agent lurking about.

FFRR are as rare as Hen's Teeth around here, my Insurer had to get authorization from head office just to identify the thing correctly. Thus non existent indi' support.

Cheers,
Rich

You could consider https://bellautoservices.co.uk who do remote remaps. It would mean having also to purchase a Gap iiD (if you don't already have one) but that would be a very useful item to have, unless your relatives have suitable diagnostic already.

Just a thought for you. BAS are highly thought of by members on here. John

The EGRs on my 3.6 have been disabled for 3 or 4 years now. No I’ll effects. The motor was immediately a little smoother at idle without the EGRs. Not a big change but noticeable.

I went a different way and bought emulators. The emulators allow the EGRs to be unplugged and so sit idle in the closed position. The longer term plan is to remove the EGRs and related cooling hoses completely.

But try a blanking kit. It’s a very cheap way to go and you probably won’t need a remap. ______________________________

Thanks for the feedback folks. Reassuring to know, especially as my nearest remap is a boat trip away. Thumbs Up

Well we did the 'delete' yesterday afternoon, under an hour all told.

First impression today, cold start idle immediately solid and not all over the place.

Gentle driving, 50mph, revs settled and not randomly hunting around 15/17k rpm. they were, up, down, up, down,.......

Car up to temp, and feels more responsive, also showing 28mpg on both readouts, pootling around country lanes from zero to sixty mph.

We'll see how this pans out, but the car just seems to say "thank you, I can breathe". Smile

Best, Rich

Am I correct in thinking that if you use the blanking kit you still leave the EGR electrics plugged in? John

I have fitted the egr-delete ebay kit to my 2010 facelift 3.6 autobiography today and I echo the comments made by other posters. Big improvement however I already knew what it would be like having had an electronic delete on a previous TDV8.

No eml as yet.

EGR’s in place, all working fine at 60,000+ miles, no MoT issues, happy to keep those NOx emissions in check and keep those eBayer’s that sell this kit as poor as possible! Very Happy Thumbs Up
