Investments - what do you invest in?

Hi All,

Wondering what good financial investments you've made over the years in terms of bonds, isa's, stocks ets that continue to work well for you and the family.

I'm getting a bit tired of money just sitting in the bank with the awful rate of interest.

Any tips and advice very welcome.

Not much in the bank for the aforementioned reasons, so most of of it in is shares of commercial real estate, short term residential property restoration and development and of a hotel building leased to a chain.

Not sure rare Range Rovers qualify, but let's say 'rare Classic vehicles' then Wink l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

Return is not the question. Value is. Its no good having £300.00 for a £100.00 number plate - £200.00 aint gonna last 5 mins. Unless you have either a high value investment or 100's / 1000's of lesser value ones they are not really 'investments' IMO.

Property is the only real high value investment that is good for the layman if you are thinking of comfort in later life. Thats where most folks have a default investment in a rising market. Property dips really cause major issues for Joe Public unlesss that have been silly with the acquisition / equity share.

As a Chartered Surveyor I am seeing a significant rise in the number of property conversions on the high street which create flats over ground floor retail - the high street will be unrecognisable in 10 years time. Smart landlords are preparing for this new world now.

ISAs, via various funds to spread risk, premium bonds, equities and my house. Cars just eat money unless you can get a real classic, but that’s serious money. Funnily enough, although I am a RICS Registered Valuer, I don’t have any direct property investments.

the problem with higher value property is that the revenue are stinging folks for stupid amounts of stamp duty now. So if you have a portfolio which you want hold/buy in a company you will end up paying a massive surcharge on the stamp when you buy (unless you redevelop it) which off sets a big chunk of cap growth, so you end up holding it in your own name, which means that you probably end up paying higher rate tax on the income.

In an ideal world, I would have a portfolio of 20-30 flats held in a company which then pays out a dividend to me when I retire. Thats the plan. And so I don't have to pay silly stamp duty on them when I buy them I plan to build them and keep them. Buy land mortgage free, build flats with own capital, rent flats, live off income. Thumbs Up

At the moment I am building up the capital so that I can do that and also continue to build and sell developments of 3-5 houses on the side.

As they say they aren't making any more land, so grab it when you can. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Personally invest in Biotech, volatile, yes, but in it for the long term so can take the risk..

Just thoughts

An old adage is... if the property is selling for less than rebuild value it’s worth buying for investment- otherwise not.

Don’t forget they may not make any more new land, but they can release /make available any amounts.

As mentioned earlier the high street 2nd floor is a target as planning restrictions are relaxed making it easier to gain permission for conversions to accommodation.

If I were rich and young , I would be considering buying property in france, only because it’s so cheap and so far below rebuild cost. The French are fleeing the countryside....my bet, and it’s a bet, one day they will return to escape the city. Need to be young to wait long enough.. look out for French taxes! Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc
