Hello and question

Hi all,

I have just bought a 04 TD6. Very Happy
I've been a big fan of the LR brand for a long time and have plenty of time in some of their more agricultural vehicles, both on and off road. I have got a fantastic deal on the RR (a small positive in the current economic climate) as she is being sourced through a family members business. But as it is not coming through a dealer I have had her checked over, serviced and put through an MOT by an independent mechanic.

I will post some pics up as soon as I get her home!

I do have a quick question that I hope someone will be able to help me with.
I'm going to put 4 new tyres on as they are all on the way out.
I live a little off the beaten track and spend a fair amount of time off road and driving unmade roads.
I'm looking at putting on 4 x General Grabber AT2 ( 255/60/18 ).

I just wondered whether anyone had any experience with this tyre or just with putting a more aggressive tyre than is usual on?
I know I will suffer a higher amount of road noise but they seem to come highly recommended by the D3 chaps.

It seems like a great forum here, I look forward to being able to contribute rather than asking lots of newbie questions (but be prepared for a few to start Embarassed ).

Apologies for the monster first post!
Many thanks

Welcome Mr Fake,

Ah... A well read man - quoting Gen Melchett if I'm not mistaken!

Looking forward to seeing pics of the new panzer (I'll be in bother for using this to refer... Embarassed ). Not a clue on the tyres btw!

Hang loose - Dan. Mr. Green

Welcome

The GG 255/60/18 is a great all round Tyre Looks good as well the only very slight downside is that the tyre has a soft sidewall.

Pirelli also do a 255/60/18 ATR does not look as Mr. Green the GG but the side walls are way better I run the 255/55/19 ATR in pref to the standard 20's Thumbs Up

Thanks for all the speedy responses.

Ken - I will investigate the Pirelli option, thanks for that.

Dan - spot on, Melchett it is. Wise words that I like to live by! Panzer is an excellent description.
To be honest some of the responses from people I work with when I announced I'd bought a FFRR I might as well have bought a tank! Twisted Evil

FFND - Hertfordshire born and bred I'm afraid - currently residing just outside a little place called Sarratt near M25 J18. Whereabouts are you - I'll keep a beady eye open for your FFRR sticker! "If nothing else works, a total pig-headed unwillingness to look facts in the face will see us through."

welcome aboard MF. For what its worth the standard tyres, wranglers or scorpions are pretty good off road. The Land Rover experience vehicles use standard tyres and they go unbelievable places with them off road.

I know I will suffer a higher amount of road noise but they seem to come highly recommended by the D3 chaps.

I was one of those D3 chaps with the AT2s. You WONT suffer more road noise. In fact, they are quieter than wranglers/scorpions. Fantastic looking tyre which holds the road well. Only difference is that they don't cope so well at MUCH higher speeds (80mph+) when compared to a purely road biased tyre.

For myself, I can't wait to wear-out my TDV8 boots and I hope that AT2s will be available in 19" by then. Thumbs Up The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom Smile
