I’ve got these fitted with no problems...

I have just fitted the blanking kit. As others have reported, the car is noticeably better for it. Throttle response is way better, idle is rock steady, and the surging I have had seems to be gone as well.
My question goes out to those of you who have been running their cars with egr's blanked without a re-map over time. Have you had any issues, or do we now have the mileage to say that the re-map, although probably a good idea, is unnecessary from a reliability / longevity standpoint?

Regards,
Henrik

Well guys, today I've just fitted my egr blanking kit, started it up, no warning light. I'm going to take it for a spin shortly and go get it washed. I must say it is rather an easy job to do. Tomorrow its having the remap done by quantum tuning with the egr delete.
Now, when I removed the egr's, I noticed the left Bank was more sooted and slightly wet with oil than the right which was completely dry, is this something I should worry about?

The difference in oiliness between the sides is probably down to the crank case ventilation.

Hi! Thanks for the response to my question.
On this subject: If the crank-case ventilation passes through one of the EGR's, blanking them off means that the crank steam is no longer being returned to the intake. Am I correct in assuming that this will result in a very slow, but steady evaporation and disappearance of the engine oil? Up until now, my car consumes no oil whatsoever, but if the crank-ventilation is now forced down the exhaust, I expect that to change. Also, if the EGR is actually fully closed and the exit port blanked off, are we shutting off the crank-case ventilation altogether? That can't be good.... I hope I'm wrong.

Cheers!
Henrik

Thanks for that ur20, is that something that I should be concerned about? The engine light came on about 2 weeks ago whilst driving home from Bristol up the M5 , no loss of power or messages. Checked the fault code and said something about left Bank egr current low. Looking around the engine I did find a very thin vacuum hose that was hanging loose, it runs across the top of the engine along with 3 others of the same size. Anyway after about an hour of searching I think I found where it should connect to, so connected it and not had any faults since. Would this be a contributing factor you think in the oil build up on left egr?

Here’s a photo of the EGR pipes removed a few months ago from my FF @ around 128k miles.

Like others have said I find the engine oil is much cleaner, so much so, it’s sometimes difficult to see the level on the dipstick!

Yours are similar to mine with the soot, I was just worried about the oil on the left one. Thanks for the link to buy the blanking kit, can't believe how much better the car drives with them blanked off. Looking forward to the remap tomorrow to see how much more better it drives. I'm like a big kid when it comes to my FF lol.

Hope the remap/delete goes well.

You may find that Overfinch have already had it remapped...my 2010 had already been remapped when I took it to Quantum!

You should notice quite a difference! Thumbs Up

Thanks for that, nothing to worry about then. Well I blanked the egr's yesterday and it the car ran fantastic, so much smoother through the gears, no hesitation, power delivery more instant. And this morning I had a quantum remap done and my God what a hell of a difference. It's like driving a new car. The acceleration is unbelievable. So much more smoother.

It did have a remap done by overfinch though it being 15 years old quantum recommended it be overwritten, so went with it. It's just so amazingly quicker and smoother in every way.

I blanked mine, and since then about half the time when starting from cold I get blue smoke. After moving off back to normal. I am not sure if mine has a map already for the engine, but not the EGR's and I sometimes get a restricted performance message although it goes fine. 2009 TDV8 3.6

Lostinespace - I started getting the restricted performance message a couple of months ago and traced it to the left egr. I decided to bite the bullet and replace them both. It was a bit fiddly at times but not too bad.
It solved the restricted performance issue and all is good. Perhaps you are reaching the point of replacement? 2017 Jaguar F Pace 25t Portfolio - still part of the JLR family 😀
