2010 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 V8 Alaska White

MIL light coming on ??

When I got my car last year the light was on. Switched car off left overnight and light never came back on. Some 4 months later the light came on this saturday, went off later in the day, but has remained on ever since.

I've had a long 'search' to see if there are any clues on what to check but couldn't find much at all.

Q : does the car need to be looked at by a garage with a plug in reader to tell me what's wrong or are there some simple check I can do? Its a 4.2 S/C model.

You can buy a reader yourself for under £30 that plugs into your laptop and will tell you the code - you can then lookup the problems relating to this code.

Without knowing the code there's not a lot you can do unless you have other symptoms.

With a SC I really wouldnt risk driving it round with the light on.

When I test drove mine the light was on. I got it converted to LPG before I picked it up, and when I picked it up the light was off. Short whilst later and the light was on again. I got the code read, and it said that the car was running lean. I took it back to the LPG place and they had a fiddle with it, and the lights now off.

What the LPG place said was that the S/C is sensitive to fuel trim (with or without LPG), and this is a common reason for the MIL coming on. I guess that makes sense on a Supercharged car.

Best thing would be to take it to a specialist who you can trust, to read the car and make any necessary adjustments via the computer.

Out of interest, do you have any gearbox issues? Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

no gearbox issues (well that I've noticed!)

thanks for that, are they all the same (i.e. universal) is their a specific make etc - before I buy one?

I bet when you get the code read it will relate to fuel trim, either running lean or running rich. My not pop into any friendly garage with EOBD kit and get the code read? Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

Key point in my area - "friendly garage" doesn't seem to be one, £75 is the best to just plug it in to tell me what the error code is extra!

I've ordered a ODBII reader/scanner should be here early next week, next problem will be if it is the fuel trim - getting someone to adjust into the correct range!

btw I would NEVER go to my main dealer for any support or service, they are hopeless
