Towing electrics activation 2012 4.4 AB

Hi There,

Not sure if this is the correct place for this but I was wondering if there is anybody near Solihull with an IID tool who wouldn't mind activating the towing electrics on my 2012 4.4TDV8 AB. Beer tokens given in exchange! Smile

Many thanks in advance

the iidtool is locked to the vehicle owners vin number.....there might be someone who has a 'pro' tool that can do this for you..

fingers crossed then Smile

I'm really only delaying the inevitability of purchasing an IID, but I could really do with selling my 4.2SC first to keep the boss happy.

Thanks

Otherwise, it`s £25 I think to get an additional car to the standard non-pro

I believe it needs the ccf editing to tell it has a tow bar and 13 pin electrics to work fully.

In North Oxfordshire, just off M40 if that helps, it's not a pro though

It shouldn't need the CCF changing sir... What happens when you plug a trailer in?

If the rear PDC system switches off with a trailer plugged in then the IID won't make any difference sir Thumbs Up

If it helps, I fitted a westfalia towbar and electrics to my 2012 and didn't change anything with the IID tool.
Everything works perfectly when towing the tintent, the only slight issue being the rear parking sensors are still enabled when engaging reverse. But these can be switched off from the dash anyway, so not a big issue for me. 2012 Westminster 4.4 TDV8 (sold)

Rear parking sensors should be disabled when you plug in the trailer.

Mine was programmed at LR when I bought the car and the sensors don’t sound. I believe that there is a trailer stability program and towing specific gearbox mapping which are enabled as well. So it’s worth making sure everything is working as it should. Whether that means it needs programming or not is up for debate....... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I'm a bit dubious of this trailer stability program and towing specific gearbox mapping. The car has no way of knowing through the trailer electrics if its a 2.5 tonne trailer or a towbar mounted bike rack that's fitted.
Surely the gearbox mapping is predominantly based on engine load? 2012 Westminster 4.4 TDV8 (sold)

I haven't actually tried it as I haven't fitted the towbar yet - I was planning to do it today, but its too wet at the moment.. I'm going on what I have read on here - I believe that it will all work with the exception of disabling of park sensors and some fog light issues (not sure what the deal is on tow stability either..) They aren't deal breakers, but I would rather have t working as it should.

Thanks for the offer Bushy. I'll get it all wired up and see where it takes me. I have the Westfalia electric kit, but not sure how it would be any different to any other dedicated wiring kit (quality aside) as there are no electronics involved in it - its just wires and plugs.

Thanks

The LR one is also just wires and plugs so should be the same.

Looking at the install instructions on TOPIx there is no mention of CCF editing, so it may work as planned. Been looking for ages to find where I read about the stability program etc but can’t locate it, so maybe I’ve imagined it!!! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
