Fault help please?

Hi,

I have a 2003 HSE 3.0 Diesel with an air suspension problem. It had a low battery when I bought it (now has a new one of the correct spec) and showed a raft of codes which I had cleared. I’ve just had it re-read as it keeps coming up with ‘air susp. inactive’ and ‘HDC inactive’ periodically.

The codes it comes up with are:

50. Can Bus Fault
51. K Bus Fault
116. Reservoir Pressure Static when filling.

Before these codes come up, the air suspension goes up and down as it should, but once codes pop up, it locks in mid level position.

The only other oddity someone has mentioned might be an issue is whoever put the steering wheel on last, has put it on squint - he thought the steering angle sensor might be unhappy and throwing up codes?

Can anyone help?

Try a search on the forum for "Reservoir Pressure Static when filling" for things you could try....

Most likely a knackered compressor (in the boot under the spare wheel) - you could try a repair kit (Bagpipe Andy on eBay) but more often than not a new compressor will be needed to resolve the issue with AIR SUSP INACTIVE (you can get just the compressor for @ £150 and swap all the other elements and wire up yourself to save £100+.

Steering Wheel could be tracking... if there was a problem with the Steering Angle Sensor this would be showing as a fault (yes, it will also daisy chain AIR SUSP INACTIVE and HDC for safety reasons) .

I had this issue previously, oddly a wheel alignment (including sorting the dodgy steering wheel out) did solve the problem

Quick easy check for your steering wheel
Find a flat straight road travel along not too fast leave go of the steering wheel it should travel in a straight line ,if your FF pulls to one side that's a good indicator of wheel alignment being out and as joe says that will throw up suspension faults
You'll need 4 wheel tracking which if it's out will need all adjusters unseized other wise any adjustments just spring back to where they were previously

Note: the steering wheel could be in the correct position, the tracking at the road wheels correct, but the steering wheel is not dead centre. This needs work on the track rod ends (both) to maintain the tracking but to align the steering wheel. .
