L322 4.4 TDV8 2011 too higher mileage to buy?

Hi all!
New to here and looking to buy a FFRR 4.4 TDV8 L322.
I’ve found a 2011 Vogue SE with a good options list, the only thing is that it’s done 150,000 miles.
It’s says full service history and has 3 months left on a no advisory MOT.
Any thoughts on the mileage? Or what to look out for? I haven’t been to view the car yet, so any advice would be great!

depends on what they are asking for it!

Mileage wise thats not really a problem adn if it has lots of service receipts and no major fault repairs, then is prob a motorway cruiser which means everything should be in fairly good nick wear-wise.

Sounds like a bargain, 150k should be nothing for these engines. They are only ticking over at motorway speeds and at that mileage all suspension , etc parts should have be replaced. If the service history is 100% then well worth a look. 2015 4.4 AB

Maybe preferable to a lower mileage city car, which may develop issues with the dpf's, caused by sitting in traffic and being unable to regen - can get nasty... the oil cooler can be an issue, well documented on this forum, and it would be nice to see a receipt for a gearbox/transfer case oil change at some stage in its life.
Service items like discs, pads and suspension bushes ain't cheap either, so maybe keep some cash under a floorboard for this sort of stuff also !
Mine is on 125k, and drives very nicely, her previous life was mainly motorway, locked up in top gear, just a fast idle for these brutes !

See if the turbo drain mod has been done, the difference is dramatic. If you go for a test drive get on a suitable road and plant the throttle all the way down and keep it there. Watch the mirror if looks like a James Bond movie behind (loads of smoke) then budget £1000 for the mod.
The price does seem good, mileage I personally wouldnt worry about, the cars are amazing but frustrating at the same time.

Plant your foot on the test drive. If it doesn’t billow a load of smoke out the back then don’t worry about the mod. That’s how I summarised it..... 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

There's a good buyers guide in the Wiki, linked at the top of the page if you haven't looked at it. Good info.

Make sure ALL the electrics and add ons work like RSE and the remotes, it will take you a good while to check these, right down to the seat heaters/coolers. As said the turbo drain is a good mod to have done, but some of us have not had it done yet and have not had problems. Plenty of threads on these cars on here and see if the seller will put it in for a new MOT

Second turbo comes on about 2500 rpm, hoof it to get above that and look for smoke, do it a few times to see if it clears. IIRC without the mod the oil can back up in the second turbo and then shows as smoke when used. Search turbo oil drain.


If you can get the full VIN from the seller before you go, you may be able to get the build sheet from vindecoderz.com

The Baltic Blue list of faults is a good starting point. Corrosion can be a problem on later 322s. Check the rear wheel arches, rear quarters, upper tailgate, tailgate support straps, brake lines and window trims.

The drain mod is more of a problem for cars that do lots of town work. As I understand it, with cars that don't get revved enough to get the second turbo into action (2,500 rpm), oil can build up there and the modification allows that oil to drain back into the sump. The mileage suggests the car has been used in a way suitable for a diesel, at least for most if its life. My 2012 car didn't smoke despite not having the mod as my driving is mainly out of town and most journeys the revs would be above 2,500 at some point.

The mileage should not be a deterrent if the car is sound, but all RRs are expensive to repair/maintain and my experience (admittedly not including cars of that mileage) is that it is desirable to have £3,000 pa available for that, obviously the more you can do yourself the better. Only Range Rovers since 1988

FOr your piece of mind OP, I bought my 2004 4.4 petrol with 135,000 miles and it’s now approaching 190,000. Obviously I’ve had to replace stuff over 7 years (water pump x2, radiator, alternator, front chain guides, fuel pump) but other than that it’s been a brahmer!
