So I've heard a bit about going into sand mode which turns all restrictions off and apparently you have launch mode that sends the ffrr into hyper space
Well coming home from work last night at 2am very quiet roads a warm engine I thought why not so I pulled over selected sand mode hit the pedal and by f@@k did it go
The engine red lines before it changes gear and throttle response is immediate
In fact it's that fast that I got home before I left work
It's nice to know it's there but I won't be doing it to often I think the fuel gauge went down faster than the rev counter went up

my brother has a 5.0 SC - he keeps telling me to give it a whirl in Sand Mode - may just have to try it in mine now  2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

Mmm food for thought...there are some Youtube videos from other parts of the world with Range Rovers giving it big beans to get up dunes and kicking up an impressive sandstorm. This explains it.

But stick it in sand mode and give it a go

At the LR Experience recently the instructor said sand mode was also useful as a remedy of last resort for getting up muddy slopes and the like. We didn't need it though. If trying off road NB stones etc can be thrown a long way behind the car so ensure no people, dogs or other cars etc behind, and watch out for the car suddenly getting full traction, it really shoots forward and so not ideal for tight spaces. Only Range Rovers since 1988

I'm not sure this applies to 5.0SCs if I give mine the beans on starting all 4 wheels spin anyway. But I'll be giving it a try  Geoff

One of the instructors on the LR day I went on a couple of years back said this too.  There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I was told this at LRE centre a number of years ago with a stark warning about how easily 4.4TDV8's & 5.0's eat their own drive trains when abused like this... As Supershuttle says above "I give mine the beans on starting all 4 wheels spin anyway."

They do like to chew up CV joints! Be careful all

I was told the same on a recent LR Experience day and we actually tried it out on the private gravel road. The instructor explained that as it is in sand mode, it assumes it is on sand and so it is looking for the slightest amount of grip it can find on any of the 4 wheels and when it detects some, it puts equal power to all 4 wheels immediately. Hence, as you are on a tarmac road, it finds grip straight away and throws full power to all 4 wheels and so launches you away and keeps doing it as it is trying to stop you getting bogged down in the same that doesn't exist - if I have remembered what he said correctly of course  Steve
