Suspension sitting funny after being lifted on axle stands

Hi chaps wondering if anyone could help me here.

I got my wheels refurbed and new tyre put on. But when I came to pick up the car I noticed the back end of the car sitting on the bump stops and the front fully extended. I had a play about with it lowering it down to access mode then up again to see if it would sort itself but the rear just wouldn’t move. Anyways, I ended up driving it gingerly home facing the sky and noticed the front kept trying to go into extended mode. I was panicking a bit because I could hear the compressor running and various messages on the dash warning of suspension fault 30mph and suspension needs to cool down etc.

My first thought was a burst rear spring, but I’ve played about with the IID tool and I’m not sure now. I deflated the whole suspension then re enabled it and got the front about right but the rear is still about 60mm too low. Least it’s not on the bump stops now Laughing Tried calibrating it 3 or 4 time now and still no luck. I’ve checked the ride height sensors as I’ve heard they can invert themselves when jacking up but they’re fine. The 4x4 display in the car is show of the wheels being raised which is making me point to the sensor.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks you.

Looks like you could well have a problem with one of the sensors, ( if the back is low but the same each side ) swop them over side to side and see if the fault moves with the sensor, not a huge job. Also ( Bear in mind this is from an owner with a 2006 vehicle ) Once down on all four wheels, try recalibrating the wheel angle sensors, go to full left lock, hold, to centre, hold, to full right lock, hold for a few seconds and then repeat the process.

Several times after my car has been in the air, the suspension system seems to get confused, doing this then cycling through access / road / off road height has normally reset my suspension. I always do this as a first step to try to solve suspension issues, free and easy to do, hope this helps Thumbs Up

I reckon it's the ride height sensors. Sometimes they get "flipped over". Worth a look-see 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Front sensors or rear ones? Or all of them? I had a look and the lever arm of the sensors on the front seem to be facing towards the outside

I checked the voltages this morning and the left front is reading 3.7V and the right front is reading 1.7V. Bit strange as the front is sitting roughly where it needs to be.

Ps the front right sensor was replaced with a genuine item about a year ago

You'll be surprised how easy they get flipped over. I had the same issue once looked & checked everything. Released the senor & all back to normal.

If it's the OSF that is way out, unbolt it & flip it over. Thumbs Up

Hi chaps, just thought I’d pop on and update this.

I checked the front ride height sensors to see if they had flipped round. All ok, so I disconnected the link from each ride height sensor and checked the voltage at each one on my iid tool whilst moving the arm.

Turns out my left rear one must be goosed. Voltage doesn’t change when I move the arm. This must be why I couldn’t carry out at calibration.

Top tip for anyone. If you ever experience this, and your suspension is sitting all funny, disconnect the electrical plug from the offending sensor. The sensor must set to a default reading. This allows you to carry out a calibration and get the car sitting level, albeit a few warnings on the instrument cluster.

New sensor ordered and should be here tomorrow. Big thanks to everyone for their help.
