refinishing deployable steps

I have noticed that my deployable steps have started to peel their, presumably powder coating in places. Shame as the rest of the car is mint. Has anyone refinished these? They look to me that they are aluminium so not sure they will stand up to being sandblasted and then repainted or powder coated. Ummh, perhaps the steps are available just on their own and they are the cheap bit ! dreaming again. 2006 S/C owned from new. Black, sand with black inserts. Shes a thirsty girl. ( now gone)
