DIY Key coding ?

Is it possible to use commonly available BMW key coding equipment to program the transponder in an eBay key, such as in the video ?

I got got £290 and £270 ( both no LR and car locksmiths ) to supply a key and code. Seems a bit much when they are probably using the same $16 keys from AliExpress and simarly cheap EWS and coding equipment as used in the video for around $30.
