Ground fault?

Hello,

i‘m searching help for a friend of mine.
He has an 4.4 MY06 and a weird problem. Every third to fifth start when he tries to fire the starter there
is a little bang (like a fuse is going) and the car goes dark. Everything is dead. He hase a battery quick disconnector
installed for that problem. After disconnecting and connecting the starter is turning and the car fires up.

Sometimes the problem seems to be gone for some days but then its returning :/

Any ideas? Or what to check?

Thank you!

Hi.

If the whole car goes off I think I would start with the main cables from the battery to junctions/boxes and earth. Check the connections are not loose, corroded or the cable is not breaking down physically at the terminals or along their length. Sometimes faults in cables can be hidden by their insulation.

Let us know how you get on. Cheers
Richard
