2004 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Zambezi Silver
What should this wire in the upper tailgate be connected to?

Hi All - recently back into early L322 4.4 V8 ownership and loving the return after 9 years away and working through a few 'opportunities' to improve the current experience...

My (newly acquired) MkIV sat nav isn't picking up any satellites (the previous unit was dead), so I thought I'd start with checking the aerial connections and having taken the trim around the rear wiper off, I was greeted with this:

I've also looked under the high level brake light cover / rear spoiler in the expectation of finding a sat nav / phone antenna, but there was noting there, albeit suggestions on the rightmost pair of studs that something had been removed recently.

Can anyone help me with this? I'm guessing that it's the reason that I can't see any satellites!

Thanks in advance
Ian

... and to give an idea as to its overall length:

Methinks that it should be connected to something, but that something has clearly been removed.

A quick web search for the LR part no gives amplifier- rear window ariel.

However, would that not be in the cubby to one side of the load space, rather than the tailgate, as I understand the ariel is on a side rear window. Cheers

Thanks Richard however it's not what's visible that I need help with, but what the loose wire should be connected to.

I've even read the relevant section of RAVE system description & operation manual to try and work it out, but to no avail.

Hopefully someone will know what it is (and possibly even where the component it's meant to be plugged in to should be).

Thank you for your reply, appreicated and sorry it's not what you're looking for.

If you've read the RAVE and seen nothing, then it may be something a previous owner had fitted and then removed. That will be a Sherlock task. Confused Cheers

They get fitted under the spoiler as its plastic and doesn't effect its range Thumbs Up

Often find them on the rear bumper reinforcer as again its fitted under plastic Thumbs Up

Maybe I'm asking the wrong question.

On the 2002-2005 BMW based L322's with the sat-nav system, there are a pair of factory co-axial wires in a separate loom that go from the rear cubby up the n/s D-post and through the trunking into the upper tailgate.

One of these wires is connected to the control box for the rear screen mounted radio antenna and I'm certain that the other is for the GPS antenna. The brass connector and length of wire that can be seen in my pictures is this wire, but I can't see where the GPS antenna itself is.

I know what the antenna should look like (from photos of s/h parts for sale on eBay), and the RAVE descriptions, but I can't determine precisely where this is meant to be installed.

So I guess that what I'm really asking is, can somebody help me pinpoint exactly where this GPS antenna is meant to be, ideally with a supporting image? If I can establish where it should be, I can either locate it on my car, or go about replacing the one that is seemingly missing. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDv8

I had the roof spoiler off the other day, but don't have any pics. There was 2 antenna up there on either side that sat under the spoiler.
I have a couple of pics of the wiring and your brass connector feeds up through the tailgate to the top.

^^^ My HERO! Thanks very much Thumbs Up

So it would appear that my GPS antenna has been recently removed (I will take photos of the location when I fit the new one), as the studs under the spoiler on the R/H side of the upper tailgate were shiny, as would be expected when nuts have been removed.

I have more than a strong suspicion that the place that prepared the car for the dealer I bought it from actually removed the GPS antenna when fitting a replacement rear wiper. I found out last week that the membrane that should be in the L/H rear door was also missing and they had fitted a replacement window regulator in that door also Evil or Very Mad

I guess it's time for another call to Dan @ Duckworths... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDv8
