4.4 TDV8 - Observations

Hello,

Purchased a late 2012 TDV8 Westminster a couple of weeks back. Car has 100k on the clock and full Land Rover/Indie history.

I’ve noticed a few noises and traits, wondered if anyone had experienced the same...

- When pulling away from stationary or slow speeds, the gearbox feels a little confused and the car feels sluggish. Same issue when climbing a steep incline, the car almost seems to struggle and I think it’s a gearing issue. No issue once above 20mph and on full throttle.

- I’ve noticed a strange noise coming from the engine (I think drivers side). Not sure how to accurately best describe, but it’s a constant sound during idling or under load. It’s not a knocking sound or anything that sounds really alarming, more of a constant ‘boiler type’ sound.

Not normal sounds or behaviour. Should be quiet, smooth and pull like a train. Not heard of this problem before.

No, not normal at all.

I know you've said it has full history but does that include gearbox filter and oil? And diffs and transfer box?

The ZF gearbox oil should be changed every so many miles OR every five or six years, whichever is sooner, if memory serves.

The sound sounds like the interior fan/blower system.

Could be the Fuel fired booster heater, FFBH, which will operate under certain temperature conditions.

Not sure it is the FFBH as the sounds occurs all the time, no matter the temperature.
