Help!! No sound!! ***updated***

I’m just in the process of changing my hse spec stereo to a double din unit.

Has anyone done this? Need some tips about the stereo housing as I’ve bought the kit off eBay!

Cheers!

If you have a double din, looks like you will have to remove the "shelf" in the middle as well .

That’s exactly what you need to do, my man did it with a soldering iron, less mess, had to cut a fair old chunk to get it to fit

Try to make sure what you cut out is reversible to some extent, so you can always reinstate if you want to take the new unit with you to another car. .

Got that all sorted. Now I’ve no sound Sad

It’s finding radio stations through the seek function but no sound is coming out Sad

Attached is a pic of the boot compartment with a couple of not connected wires.

I’ve done some research and found that there should be a power amplifier somewhere (I’ve got the 3 speakers in the front door and one in the centre of the dash) but can’t find any information on it!

Any ideas?

In your cubby photo, as displayed on the forum, middle right, wires bundle must be going to something - an amp ? (That is where it usually lives for cars with all the gubbins in the cubby e.g. not HSE)

There must be an "other end" up behind the dash you need to plug in somewhere on your new kit ? .

If you have a middle speaker, there is an amp hidden in the rear left cubby, it’s out of sight down in the recess Thumbs Up

I’ve used the connects2 kit to connect the stereo. There’s one plug that has nowhere else to plug into that was plugged into the display part of the old stereo.

Other than that all that’s plugged into the new stereo is parts from the big connector block as that’s all I had to plug in?

Could this be the problem?

Is it easy to get out and check over?

On the old stereo it never had sound (apart from twice it came on for 5 secs) and the display never worked at all.

Laughing so the old stereo had no sound either ?

The Connect2 stuff is for a telephone

To get at the amp, take out the spare wheel cover board, remove the plastic side panel (two 10mm plastic nuts, a popper holding the side cover, and the luggage hook (allen key), also remove the two cargo net hooks from the carpeted upright near the tailgate, and remove that panel.

You should now have better access to the thing in the bottom left corner of the cubby. Suggest check the pins and connectors for corrosion, and also dismantle the black box once you have it out and also check for corrosion/water ingress

Remove corrosion with contact cleaner and toothbrush, repair/replace as necessary.

If you "fix" the amp, you will probably find the old original setup will work !! Shocked

Check instructions of new kit for how to connect up. .

Could be , I had an early HSE, and the centre speaker has an ampbecause the standard system is only 4 channel. I found the amp rear left cubby, get a torch & have a look , there will be one there. Notorious for getting wet and damaging the connectors

Would an after market amp work?

Never needed to do this before!

Looking at a 4 channel amp?
