Am I mad????

First post so please be kind......

I am currently driving a 2009 Volvo XC60 2.4d, been reliable, ok to drive etc etc, my wife used it for 4 years trouble free, but since she got a newer V40 D4 for work, i took over the XC, but I only do 5k a year mileage, so not enough to warrant the dirty fuel!
Ever since they came out, I have always wanted an early L322 (I have the 2002 L322 die cast model next to my bed!)
So my question is....am i totally mad, or is the idea of selling my Xc and getting an early L322 4.4 petrol a really bad idea?

I appreciate that it wont be as reliable and i know i will need a constant "maintenance fund" to keep it in good health, but prices are such that an early one, if kept in good health and good condition shouldn't really depreciate any more?

Why an early one sir? infotainment wise, they are quite dated... The ride was improved model on model! and keeping an early car in fine fettle will arguably cost the same, if not more than a run out model.......

The sweet spot for me would be a first interior'd facelift SC circa 2007/8 Thumbs Up

I wouldn't bother with a 4.4. Go for the 4.2 supercharged as they are the most reliable of the lot.... and fast!

Not mad at all, it's a great idea. Go 4.2SC, and as said before go as recent as the wallet can stretch to. If you've got time on your side, I'd maybe wait for a good one to come up on here as they do regularly. I'd always go for an enthusiasts car if I could, they've usually gone the extra mile

Thanks for the replies!

The main reason i want an early one is that i just prefer the clean original lines, not too worried about the infotainment as i will swap that out fairly quickly, speed also not too worried about.....more about nice v8 noise and wafting about! Laughing

My budget is up to £5k, so not really into SC territory,

Excuse the pic nicked off ebay, but this is the right sort of original look and colour id like..

When it comes to Land Rovers, I always tell people to just "go for it" because despite all the issues that you hear and read about, if you don't satisfy that desire of having one, you will forever be thinking about it.

Worst case scenario is that all the horror stories are true and you decide Land Rover ownership is not for you. All you do then is just sell the vehicle and walk away from the green oval forever. No harm, no foul, just a few thousand dollars in the expense column on your balance sheet. Razz

I am a bit older now but I have lean't that the answer to all of these questions is YES not NO, I was wrong every time.

Can I afford a new car?
Can I afford a house?
Can I afford to get married?
Can we afford to have children?
Can I afford season tickets for the football?
Can I afford to retire?

There was probably a few more as well along the way! Geoff

The lines didn't change too much over the years, and most of the grills etc are changeable, so you could go to earlier ones if you wanted. Good luck with the search
