FBH coolant air lock

Morning all.

I've had my 3.6 TDV8 for about 2 years but the FBH and park heating has never worked. IID showed a open circuit on the FBH coolant pump. So I finally got round Tom changing that.

I got the pump changed and reset the FBH. I was pleased when the FBH fired up and I felt hot air from the FBH exhaust. However, the heater cuts out after 2 or 3 mins. No error messages.

My thinking is that I have a coolant air lock. When I changed the pump, I clamped the pipes but lost 0.5-1 litre of coolant. However, the coolant level has not dropped at all on the reservoir bottle. I've driven the car, no over heating or anything but it hasn't sorted it.

The other thing is that when the FBH runs (for a short period), the pump can be heard gurgling and sloshing. Sounds like air and water.

Any ideas on bleeding this part of the coolant circuit?

Thanks.

Might parking for a while facing up or down a steep hill help? Vaguely remember reading that one of the BMW engines could be helped to burp by parking on a hill ...?
