P023D-22 checking for leaks on inlet manifold help

Hi all. In nearly 5 years ownership of these supposedly unreliable, always broken cars, I have my first issue. It's a 3.6 tdv8 and I'm getting the restricted performance error going up hill under acceleration as quite a few have.

I have already replaced the top intercooler hoses with silicone ones a few months ago as preventative maintenance and these are still fine. I've had the under trays off and the bottom 2 look fine.

This leads me to a cracked manifold on the driver's side. The bit I need some advice on is how to diagnose this DIY. I've tried soapy water when idling to no avail so that leaves me doing a smoke test. Has anyone done this? If so is it just a case of rubber glove over the inlet hose and smoke tube in through a cut off finger and hose clamp to create an air tight seal or something more complex?

Also I'm sure I saw a DIY machine set up on here but can't find it from searching so if anyone can assist with the post that would be a great help.

One final thought is I hadn't driven it for about 3 weeks and there was no issue before so it's just appeared out of the blue so could be a stuck actuator arm I suppose but have tried to see it but can't seem to locate it. Thanks for any help in advance. Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue

Thanks for the recommendation. It's always good to have a reliable indy to fall back on. Thumbs Up

I really want to sort it myself though for a sense of achievement or at least pinpoint the vacuum leak.

I've just tested the turbo actuator and it moves freely so pretty sure I can rule that out. Gave it a liberal spay of wd40 for good measure though. I think I can rule out everything underside I can see and touch myself for now so it's back to the top end. Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue

Thanks I've used green oval in the past and they were pretty good.

In regards to the leak I've now located it. Needed a big longer with the soapy water to see it bubble up. It's on the top of the inlet manifold where they all seem to go from researching it. Will need to look at bonding it with some sikaflex or maybe q bond to seal it up. It's just a case of getting at it to make the repair. Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue
