BMW Z4

Anyone had any experience of these? Thinking about picking one up, hard top convertible with straight six as something to enjoy on decent days and back up car for Rangie. RR Vogue TDV8 Grey/Black

United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Baltic Blue

Someone more knowledgeable than me will turn up shortly no doubt, I think it depends on the year as to reliability issues etc. My wife had a 2007 for 6 months, no issues but 2 seats proved a big problem for us. 6 months is nothing to go on but was a lovely. well put together driver's car IMHO Thumbs Up

My wife also had one, a 2.0 in dark blue. Lovely looking car and it drove really well. However it’s the hardest car “we’ve” ever owned. It had big standard alloys which had run flats on them, a great drive but other than anything billiard table and your going to know about it. It was a challenge to get in and will extend your hips to get in it. We had a rear coil spring fail which is quite common, but apart from servicing and tyres it was turn key reliable.

Steve.

Thanks both, I am slightly averse to the hard ride of BMW m cars, I have a 328i at present (hardly being used since Rangie acquired) but an SE as did not want those huge alloys, run flat and hard suspension as prefer to avoid shattering my teeth.

I'm trying to find a non m spec example, ideally with the smaller alloys. Just fancy a roadster for a bit but like the idea of hard top so really limited to Z4 or SLK. The newer SLKs seem nice but 350 is pretty rare and pricey. RR Vogue TDV8 Grey/Black

United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Zermatt Silver

I suspect you might be looking at the more modern version but my wife had an 07 plate Z4 SI Sport coupe for about a year in 2011

Great cars, the coupe versions looked really mean and were proper hooligan cars, only available with 3 litre straight six petrol engine, very rapid and easy to drift Mr. Green

Lovely place to sit, felt like you were piloting a rocket - big bonnet out front, not much behind you

She only sold it as no. 1 child arrived and we couldn't turn off the airbag in the passenger seat! (there was literally no facility to do this, other than removing the wiring, no key or switch)
We both miss it Big Cry

United Kingdom 2017 Range Rover Autobiography 5.0 SC V8 Carpathian Grey

I had a 2005 3.0 for just under a year. The engine is lovely but the gearbox was notchy. The worst bit was the steering. After a few miles it heats up the grease in the steering column which makes the steering become completely remote and undriveable.

Roof motors are located poorly and end up soaking up water like a sponge. Can be relocated inside the boot for about £500.

I now have an SL which is twice the car although it was twice the price. 2017 5.0 Autobiography Supercharged

For day to day driving the 3.0 is better to live with than the M version - yes the M car produces more power but only if you're going to rev the nuts off it

We never had any steering issues with ours 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

Now the CEO changed the Beetle for an SLK R171 in AMG trim with peanut butter coloured leather. It’s again a great car but not half as hard as the Z4. It’s her first hard top and it’s a different experience noise wise. She’s had this nearly 3 years and is getting itchy feet. They do suffer from leaky boot seals and the 3rd brake light is temperamental. The biggest thing for me is there is no lumbar support on the seats fitted. I take one of those bath pillow things to stuff in the small of my back. It’s me though as it doesn’t affect my wife.

Other than the brake light failing it’s been turn key reliable.

Steve.

It does look mean in the coupe version but if I've kind of convinced myself and the HomSec that a roadster is a great idea as the 2nd car!

SL is something I've considered but having been in a friends recently its a very long car and I really wanted more of a pocket rocket than a continental cruiser.

I did hear that the roof motors can be a pain in the behind, so anything I look at will have its roof mechanism tested a good few times before we get to talking turkey about price.

Thanks for the input, glad to hear so far at least that there does not seem to be any major maintenance issues. RR Vogue TDV8 Grey/Black

Had a Z4 3.0 conv. auto. Had to be one of the most enjoyable cars I've owned.
It was welded to the road. Almost impossible to lose, but so easy to bring back under control. Loved it.
Had an SL 55AMG as well. Tony

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.2 SC V8 Buckingham Blue

I did a stack of research on these a little while ago , from a residual point of view the coupes were stronger for the older models but if can go for a later model with folding hard top an excellent all rounder. We were looking for a non depreciator went for a Subaru WRX STi which is ridiculously entertaining Holland and Holland Range Rover By Overfinch

Hmm, micra cabrio might tick the pocket bit but not sure it qualifies as a rocket unless its dropped off a cliff or something. RR Vogue TDV8 Grey/Black

Seem to be a lot of these around with Red leather interior, which I don't think i could live with. Without wishing to offend anyone on here, who in their right mind would spec a car with red leather! RR Vogue TDV8 Grey/Black
