Smoke from exhuast

Guess this could be terminal. Pulled away from a roundabout and the Range Rover hesitates, gave a puff of smoke in the mirror and then drove ok for about 1/2 mile until I parked. Got back in the car and a cloud of smoke on starting and a steady stream of smoke coming from the back. Smoke screen if I touch the accelerator other than very gently. Babied it back home about 2 miles and smoke coming from exhaust on tick over. Look like oil around both exhaust tips. Fluids look ok but not yet had a chance to cool down properly and check.

Any hope that it is something simple??? Check with IDD tool and no errors.

Have had a sniffer test done and ruled out the head gasket

Rescanned with a Foxwell scanner and only codes are for oxygen sensor 2 bank 1 (had come on a few days ago and was waiting for sensor to arrive) and fuel trim bank 1

Compression test organised for next week and if anything internal will look to sell as is☹️

Any ideas where I can look (car stuck on my drive and I am not a mechanic so idiot guide appreciated. There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t

Head gasket, if I remember, is normally white smoke & wouldn't leave oily deposits around the exhaust.
That means it's either rings or valve seals? Having said that it could be something much simpler, find a good indy & get his opinion is all I can say. Good luck.

Smoking fixed by replacing the PCV valve. Took a few miles to burn off the residual smoke but running fine now. Nice cheap fix for less than £30.00.

Put a new sensor in the left passenger side but sill get the engine light and same cP0036 code on cold start so will get another sensor and change the driver’s side as there is conflicting info on which side is bank 1. My mechanic friend was making some enquiries and the PCV valve was mentioned by a colleague think we were talking about the BMW engine. Checked for the part and as it was only £25+vat bought one. PCV on the Jag engine is at the front and easy to access. Old one was full of oil as were all the pipes in and out and some other “inlet” pipes. Cleaned up pipes and fitted new PCV and smoke started to clear and was down to just a wisp after a couple of miles driving around. Have done about 20 miles now and no visible smoke. There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t
