TDV8 backbox mounts - are this correct?

Hi all,

The back box mounting on our ‘12 TDV8 are pretty ropey. I had the passenger side rear one repaired today as it was shearing off. Can anyone advise me this is how they are supposed to ‘look’? I would have thought they’d be on a bracket and not just welded on.

I thought they bolted on into the threads you can see in the pictures certainly not welded on. I would it has had an odd/cheap repair in the past.

Is it possible that a tow bar armature may have been fitted at some time, then removed and the original towing eye brackets that need to be removed to fit one have not been refitted? The exhaust hangers on mine are certainly bolted to these. 2012 Westminster TDV8 4.4 Indus Silver

It’s missing the Westfalia towing eye brackets, the exhaust hangars bolt to these. I’m about to take a set off my 4.2SC tomorrow as I’m fitting a towbar, I’ll take some pictures. I’m going to sell them for cheap if you’re interested. Will list them in the for sale and wanted section.

Thanks all.

Yes, Flanders I’d like to see a pic and if you are selling I may be interested. I did have the cracked part welded last week or so. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster - Baltic Blue, Jet interior

Here's what should be on there (these are the standard Westfalia towing eyes, not a towbar) - left side:

Close-ups showing how the backbox exhaust hangar bolts to the flange on the towing eye, left side:

Right side, with the towing eye:

As removed; they are attached to the car with four long fine-thread bolts (two of which are visible at the top of the picture)

These surplus parts are shortly going on the for sale section. Hope that helps Thumbs Up
