Change of Ownership and SORN

My dads calling it a day on the driving front and passing his car on to me. His road tax runs out at end of month. I'm not going to be using the car for a few moths so whats the best way to SORN it ? Whilst its under his name or when I get the new V5 ?

Its an absolutely immaculate Rover 75 1.8 ( with the head gasket modified ! ) 2002.
With just 78K on the clock, I contacted Matthewsons Car Autions who have been featured on the Tv series Bangers and Cash but they reckon the Rovers are only fetching around £400. Its in that limbo land between collectable and classic so dont know whether to hold on to it or sell it.

You will need to SORN it when you get it. Neither VED or SORN are carried over after change of ownership.

Keep it! A great car to have for no outlay.

Thanks for the advice. I have a dream of sitting next to it an a foldable chair, sipping a glass of wine and eating the contents of a picnic hamper one sunny afternoon at a classic car gathering !
