United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Stornoway Grey
Who keeps a back up car?

So my 2011 is 'resting' this week, I've an issue to find and sort but won't get time until the weekend.

Leaving me commuting in my wife's Toyota.
Luckily she doesn't really need it and it's available.
I think it did 400 miles last year.

I should really sell it (the Toyota) but I realised the real reason I'm probably keeping it may be because I don't have absolute faith in the RR. And I'm keeping the Toyota effectively as a back up car.
(I sure as hell ain't getting the bus).

Don't get me wrong the RR's never left me at the roadside. I don't even have AA.
But theres a nag right back. Just in case.

It just makes me wonder is a 'spare' an essential accessory to Range Rover ownership?

Do you have a nagging feeling, even in the very back that maybe one day you'll get a bong when you just have to be somewhere?

So who here has a back up car?

I don't mean a second, partner's car that they use.
I mean a taxed, MOT'd, insured set of wheels that sits there "just in case" ?
. Cheers, Greg

Ha Ha !!

I’ve NEVER had a Land Rover (90, 110, D1x2, D2x2, D3, RRC, P38x5,L322x2) without having a back-up car, or two Smile
And generally I have needed them Smile

Yes me too, always had an old usually Japanese back up to also use as a “van”
I’ve recently been brave/stupid and bought a second L322 With the hope that they won’t both breakdown at the same time. They won’t will they?

It’s not ridiculous it’s a brilliant way to justify more toys, I still don’t know how I convinced my wife that I “need” 2 Rangerovers but yes if I could only have 1 car it wouldn’t be a Rangerover or any JLR product, that is ridiculous and sad.

I've obviously been lucky - had an old 2.5 NA Ninety as my first car when 17, then a TD5 110 SW and now the L322 5.0 S/C, and never had any issues!

The catalytic converter in the 110 TD5 did break up and partially block the exhaust during a trip over the Pyrenees and severely limited performance in the last few days, but we still made it back home to London at 50 mph and got my usual garage to fix.

I've got a Series 1 107" in a very slow rolling restoration back at home in Dorset, and even that has rescued Dad's car at least once, and never yet let me down... Famous last words.

I like to have something just as unreliable as my backup Rolling with laughter

To be fair I drive a Octavia VRS as my daily, my other half drives the FFRR and the Defender lives in the garage.

Its good to have them, as it means you can take one off the road to do work and just take your time.

Thumbs Up

Not sure which is the backup for which Whistle , but I also have a 1960 built SII Land Rover as well as my L322.

I have only had the L322 for 11 days and it has been into the garage 3 times (so far) which means both the SII and my wife's car have seen action as backups. Laughing 2010 Range Rover TDV8 Baltic Blue Autobiography (2011 MY) - SOLD Sad
