Did a search on this but I want to clarify and make sure I’m understanding correct

Is it right that the car doesn’t tell you how many miles or how much time until your service but that it just pops and and basically says service is now required?

All cars I’ve ever had normally tell you a time or millage countdown when you turn the key to accessory just before starting. Regards

When I bought mine, she was well overdue a service. All the read out said was 'service required' & nothing else.
The vehicle must know on miles or time or condition of oil?
So perhaps you're right.
Yet on the works Peugeot Partner van it gives you a + countdown & a - countdown...strange.

The a4 i owned was doing an oil level check from the menu since it had no oil stick:) 2010 3.6tdv8 180k km.

I was wondering this as mine's just popped up that message with no warning - I assumed it would give some sort of countdown like every other recent car I've owned, but I can't see anything in the menus to suggest that this is the case.

The handbook just mentions a Service Indicator, which I'm assuming is just the message. 2010 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE

On start up the dash shows mileage to next service for a few seconds before full mileage appears.... on mine.............but things may have changed over the eons since mine was made!

Play it safe and work on 12K miles or 12 months whichever comes sooner , yes 9.5 l of C1 oil (4.4 with DPF) isn't the cheapest stuff but a dam site cheaper than and engine , bloody fuel filter is pricey too but that's what you get getting into bed with Ford !! (Standyne control the prices ).
