Water in fuel

After driving through torrential rain and minor floods earlier this afternoon the Water in Fuel message appeared together with service due in 1650 miles. Stopped the engine, re-started and the messages disappeared and didn't return after driving another forty miles. Could this be flood water upsetting the electrical gremlins or is it likely to be genuine ?

I often wonder on what basis the car works things out. For example if I do a few short journeys with no lights on (other than DRL) and the air con and fans switched off I get a low battery warning. Do a slightly longer journey with all lights and air con running no message. And the engine turns over and starts perfectly well at all times. Thinking back to last winter it was bloody annoying with the FBH sometimes not working or cutting out prematurely if operated after running a few short journeys which led the car to believe the battery was low. Again, do a slightly longer journey and all is fine Rolling Eyes
