Wade sensing not available on a full fat?

Why is there no option for wade sensing on a 2013 to 2017 L405... I read it's an option on the 2018 2019 L405 but not for the earlier version. Yet standard on a sport 2013 and the discovery 4 as an option on the HSE luxury that practically has the same infotainment systems...

Any one know if this can be retrofit to a 2013 L405? I assume the system can deal with it and it's a matter of coding it in and fitting the sensors into the mirrors (that by the way are shared with the Sport anyway...)

Any help or guidance would be appreciated Thumbs Up

It was available on MY2016, not sure about 2014, 2015. Blind spot monitoring or surround camera system was a prerequisite in 2016, whilst on MY2018 onwards the prerequisite is surround camera system.

I don't remember wade sensing being standard on any Land Rover, aside from SVA L405s, and certainly never on a Sport.

I'd be surprised if you can retrofit it.

Simon from powerful uk will know if it can be turned on with the Gap Diagnostic iid tool. If so 30 quid and your good to go!

The 2015 brochure shows it as an option (£250) and a footnote suggests it was only available wth blind spot monitoring and closing vehicle sensing. Q how useful it actually is, it just measures how deep the water is under the mirrors, when what you really need to know is depth (including holes in line of the wheels etc) in front of the vehicle. By the time the depth at the mirrors approaches the 90cm limit you might be too deep at the front. Only Range Rovers since 1988

Thanks everyone.

I do have blind spot assist in the mirrors and lane and vehicle approach sensors etc. Who knows maybe it can be a viable retro fit..

They look to be parking sensors that bounce off the surface of the water and indicate the depth of water...

All of my Land Rovers have wade sensing including my IIa, I walk through and if it goes over the top of my gumboots its too deep. letters not necessarily in the right order

After driving through a six inch 'flood' a couple of weeks ago the dash showed water in fuel and service required. This has since disappeared but I don't think I'll be trying the 3ft wading depth right now. Laughing

That's not good to hear? ...

I have actually waded 1000mm and that's 100mm more than LR say the L405 is capable of... admittedly I have 33inch tyres and also a 1.5 inch lift kit from ebay along with lifting on the IID tool. But non the less I've had no issues wading at all (touch wood)

That's good to hear. Maybe I'm just unlucky. I live on a farm, and I don't use the L405 to get around fields etc. I just enjoy the elevated ride height, visibility etc. and on road performance. I,ve owned seven range rovers 1979 to date and I know very well if I want to traverse rough or wet ground the best bet is a tractor. Modern full fats such as mine with 22 inch alloys, road tyres and so on really aren't up to the job. Early Range Rovers with proper tyres and wash down plastic interiors were far better suited, but that's not what it's about now, and I guess we shouldn't expect much more than getting out of a wet field at a country show.
