I moved over to the 405 in the summer when I bought a 15 plate 3.0 AB with 30K on the clock, trading in my 2009 L322 in the process.

On the whole I love it but it has developed a couple of issues that I'd like to try and resolve without having to resort to the dealer and warranty.

Just recently, I've noticed the air from the vents isn't getting cold, even with the temp set to 'LOW' The fans pick up and it might get slightly cooler but not cold. If I turn it to 16 deg or above, the fans slow right down and it feels like it's just blowing air at ambient temp, about 18 degrees in the sun today. I'd expect to have to increase the temperature to something like 18-19 after a few minutes at 16 deg which I'm fairly sure is what was happening during July and August.

Am I correct in assuming that the temp selected on the dial should reflect the temp at the vents? Could this be a partially covered up cabin temp sensor?

i probably should have said that in my original post. Yes, A/C button - ON, Auto - ON. Even if I have 'MAX A/C' on, it doesn't make any difference. I've just been out to try it again there is no perceptible difference in air temp at the the centre vents between a selected temp of 16 to 26 deg.

see if switching auto off makes a difference...it could be that auto is thinking its cold enough not to reduce the temperature... ... - .- -.

regas i reckon, make sure you have the correct gas.

Interesting idea Stan about it deliberately not reducing the temp due to Auto being selected. Will try that today.

Failing that, I will book it in with the dealer for them to look at.

Whilst it's there, I'll ask them to look at the infotainment system, which can take a considerable while to wake up and or switch promptly between rear view and main screen whilst manoeuvring. Is this something that others have experienced?

@nwmgc Sorry for the delay in get back to this, life's been a bit hectic lately.

Managed to get it back to the dealer last Saturday morning and had a helpful tech look at the issues I was complaining about which were: air con not cold, stop/start not working, delays/ freezing on the display and the tail gate not closing properly some of the time.

He quickly established the air con is not working at all. At it's coolest setting it's just blowing ambient air around. This may be why the start /stop function is inoperative. He said there is a link between the two systems, in that the cabin temperature will be prioritised over the stop /start function and if it's not achieving the desired cabin temp then the stop/start is disabled.
Hopefully the screen delay can be resolved with a software update and the lower tailgate needs a small adjustment to rectify.

It's booked in for a couple of days next week and I'm hoping this will all get resolved then and under warranty!

I'm surprised that a four year old car should need the air con re pressurising and wonder if this is a common problem?

I should get mine back today. It seems it took some time to fix (three days) and I will find out more later. I do know there are problems with the new EU type A/C coolant fitted to our cars which is very leaky (as well as being much more expensive). I know that's what the initial diagnosis was - but will report back.

Well folks, it turns out it was the pesky-new-fangled-EU gas. The service adviser said 'the sales department have received a very large invoice'. I, of course, am relieved this is all under warranty but will be anxious that the stuff will seep away again. Still, something positive after five days with the stealer!

Did you say the new R1234yf caused your air con problem ?

Well, there was a lot more to the story since I wrote in 2019! It went back three times (pandemic didn’t help) over the next two years - even trying an even more useless dealer - and it turned out to be a pinhole leak in the compressor. Naturally, the dealer said it was a recent problem but it’s been fine since (touch wood and all that)… 🙄
