Black pack and values

In the long term will the black pack make the vehicle look dated and or lower the value?

I just bought a used one. I avoided black pack (even though I quite like the look), because IMO it projects the wrong image. I've no idea though on how it affects residuals.

It came on fairly plain looking 22s which really could do with being smaller too. 405s are easily pimped too far Smile

Moving on from the 4.2 S/C ?

Have been toying with this for a while mine is on 185k still going strong and is virtually immaculate and drives like new as I have replaced all suspension bushes and wheel bearings drive shafts etc
But it is time to move as the electrical gremlins will start

It will appeal to some & make the car more desirable. It will have the opposite effect for others....

There's usually not a right or wrong, so so whatever you like & don't worry too much.

I’m also searching for a L405 and actually missed out one on I now wish I had purchased because I wrestled with the black pack debate.

There was been a few 2014/15 <60k VSE’s around us selling for <£35k and as low as 30k that are in great condition including a autobiography at our local dealer, but they sell quick! The price variations are crazy, other want £40+k for the same thing Shocked

SWMBO insists that I buy petrol as it is better for the environment -- who am I to argue?

I bought all the parts and changed mine to having a black pack as i like the look! If it means the residuals will suffer then i have the old "silver" parts to go back on... Simples Thumbs Up

I did the same, packed all the silver stuff carefully away and could easily restore to the original trim

When I started looking for an L405 after I sold my L322, the black pack edition really caught my eye. I purchased a 2016 with 17k miles in Corris Gray with the black pack and the (i believe) the 7007 22" autobiography wheels with the black/gray spokes. I have never received so many compliments. An absolutely stunning vehicle. I have no idea what "projects the wrong image" means.

IMHO the black pack looks stunning and really freshens the L405. I can't see any negative effect on values or dating effect as a result of the black pack being fitted.

If you look at some L322's adorned with numerous aftermarket chrome trims on mirror casings and A/B/C posts the overall effect is what you might describe as "chavvy" but I think the 405 is a long way from that stage and you would struggle to spoil the look / image just yet.

Values wise the earliest are appearing on Autotrader around the 22k mark and no doubt moving in the trade under 20k. The days of a sub 20k high mileage 405 on Autotrader are not that far away. Well maintained cars with history will remain attractive and once they reach that stage for the earlier cars at least I think the presence of a Black pack or not will be largely irrelevant and a matter of personal taste.

Personally when I move from 322 to 405 I would retro fit the black pack as I really like the effect. Current

Its all personal choice. As many will not like it as those who do. Same is true of paint colour, interior seat colour, trim colour, etc

I spend more time looking at the inside of the car than the outside, so that is more important to me.
I think some things work together, and have discounted some cars on their trim colour alone before now. Black pack is not so much of a big deal.
I keep an eye on the local 405s for sale incase I get tempted, and black pack isnt a major deciding factor. It also doesnt seem to be adding any more value to those that have it.

We weren't looking for a car with black pack when shopping for Mrs W's new one (RRS), but it looks great, the price was right, and she loved it, so deal done. Complete with black pack, tinted windows and black wheels Cool

p.s. @funnyguy, those wheels look superb, as does your car !! Too many toys, not enough time

Those Corris grey cars look really good with black pack. My black one I'm not so sure. Murdered would probably be the correct description.
