Battery Low warning

My car is 19 months old and I have a Low Battery warning and since then the tailgate doesn't always work properly.

Can I charge the main battery under the spare wheel/Compressor or is that taboo?? All LR cars from 1984

Do you not have a post under the bonnet on an 18MY? The JLR genuine trickle charger would connect directly to the lower battery (under the spare wheel) so charging that battery directly should be fine Thumbs Up

I use a battery conditioner or a solar charger connected directly to the battery under the spare wheel and it’s fine (MY17). MY23 D350 HSE

Thanks Craig. Yes. I have a post under the bonnet but what is that for? Not to charge the battery??? Sorry, I'm not a car mechanic, I just drive it!! Whistle

I have a Ctech charger which is identical to the LR branded charger, so I presume I can use that? All LR cars from 1984

The posts are so you can conveniently connect jump leads - they are just cabled directly to the battery.

I have a CTEK socket connected to mine - you can just unscrew them & connect a fixed cable - or just use the clips onto the posts

There's positive post under a cover and a negative post in front of it.

Ignore the thick red cable - I also have an Anderson connector to easily connect jump leads

It's by far the easiest way to charge.

To get to the main battery, you have to remove the spare wheel & even then, the positive terminal isn't exactly accessible

Heres a strange question, on my Bentley the Ctek charger plugs direct into a aux/cig socket in the boot, and the Aston Martin has a similar set up in the boot too. When i spoke to Ctek they said i could charge the Bentley through the boot or any aux/cig socket as long as it had a permenant feed. Ctek also do sell a cig charger adaptor, so the big question is; Is it possible to do the same with the L405 as seems like a lot of faf to be lifting boot floors and opening bonnets to connect a trickle charger? Also in response to the question about Ctek chargers, i would contact Ctek direct as to what model is correct for the L405 as i have two completely different chargers for the Bentley and Aston, something to do with battery size and charging capacity and load etc. In my experience Ctek are very helpful.

Thumbs Up

First of all, It's not too encouraging that we should need an intelligent charger on the L405, however I've had one connected on an old '94 911 for the last five or so years via the permanent battery connectors with quick connect and it's a matter of seconds to connect / disconnect. And it certainly does the job as prior to this, the immobiliser was drainng the battery in two weeks and I was buying a new battery every year or so.

Do you have towing electrics, if so you can use the various adapter cables including ctec that are available from the site shop. Thumbs Up

Tow electrics is an option unless you have a deployable tow bar - with those, the electrics are not accessible with the tow bar stowed......

Not sure if the boot 'cig lighter' socket is permanently live or not.

I've only ever charged mine once - and that was to test the lead I'd connected - so I don't find opening the bonnet too onerous a task Whistle

I have to charge mine roughly once per month. If the wife is using it just to go to work, it will quickly discharge over one week. Diesels really hate short journeys..

The simple answer is No DrF... The aux/cigar lighters all power down some minutes after shut down... I have a JLR CTek charger that comes with wiring and a socket directly to the battery in the boot... The socket then gets mounted into a side panel... Thumbs Up

Yep, just connect tp the post and all will be fine...

I have a charger on the side of my ramp that i connect to the post under the bonnet of all L405's whilst here... A, it saves the battery low warnings! Grrr! and B, it conditions the batteries and gives extra life Thumbs Up
