DIY: Door catch surrounds on a budget.

Hi everyone,

I just did some improvements on my Td6 that I though I would share Very Happy

The paint on the door catch surrounds on my Td6 looked quite bad, so at first I considered to re-spray them, but I came across these surrounds finished in cherry wood, like the rest of the interior. Only problems is they're quite expensive (in my opinion), so that got me thinking of wrapping them.
I went on eBay and after doing some searching I found vinyl wrap in cherry wood that seemed to be a good match to the original cherry trim. It's hard to get it exactly right from the pictures only, but I took a chance and ordered a roll, since it was quite inexpensive anyways. If you search something like: "Wood Grain adhesives Vinyl cherry" you should find it.

I haven't done much wrapping like this before, so it took some attempts to get the hang of it. You will of course need a heat gun in order to shape it right and avoid wrinkles. I spent around an hour on the first one, and around 30 minutes on the others. It's not 100% perfect, but I'm quite pleased with the finished result.

Thanks! You pry it off with a thin screwdriver or something similar starting at the back and you need to slide it forward at the front when the clips have been loosened.
